While the rest of the Formula One grid has spent the last week testing, and dealing with early controversy in Spain (http://news.windingroad.com/countriesmarkets/euro/racist-f1-fans-could-threaten-spanish-grands-prix/), the Ferrari and Toyota F1 teams have spirited away to exotic Bahrain for some trials of their own.
Both teams opted out of last weekend’s Spanish testing, preferring to carry out two sessions at the Sakhir circuit. The first testing session began today and will run through Wednesday, with the second installment going from Sunday to Tuesday of next week.

Ferrari drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Luca Badoer finished with the first and second fastest times on day one in Bahrain, both men were driving Ferrari’s newest F1 creation the F2008 (http://news.windingroad.com/motorsports/ferrari-f2008-formula-one-car-unveiled/). Toyota’s Timo Glock finished behind the Ferrari’s, but only just over three-tenths of a second separated his best effort from Raikkonen.
Glock called Toyota’s (http://news.windingroad.com/body-stylesmarket-segment/crossovers/wr-fleet-2008-toyota-highlander-hybrid/) first efforts, “a good day,” going on to say that the testing improved later in the day as the circuit got cleaner.
“It was difficult to get consistent track conditions but towards the end of the day it was better and we did some important tests. It has been a pretty good session and it was important to do these mechanical set-up change,” said Glock.
