View Full Version : Sunroof rattles when closed

When it's popped up, it doesn't rattle. I've already taken it apart hoping to find some sort of bushing or guide that was worn, but I didn't find anything significant.
I'm beginning to think it's the sunroof seal. Anyone have this problem?
Which is the correct part?

Anyone remove their sunroof? Was the sunroof nice and tight in the hole?

My sunroof rattles a bit when closed as well, although the car is 19+ years old, it doesn't rattle as much as my 5 year old mazda sunroof. I just always drive with it open

Haha, yes, that's what I do at times as well. But when it's cold out or raining, it's less than idea.

Sorry to be bumping an old thread, but mine just developed a rattle. Anyone have a fix?
Damn, it's just one thing after another with this car ...

I have fixed mine - and it only cost me $.80!
Take one quarter, one dime, and a nickel and wedge it up between the headliner and the sunroof - just in front of the front/rear seam. Repeat for other side.
Problem Solved!

I replaced the sunroof gasket and solved the same rattle you describe. Bought mine from BMA

Are you sure it's the lid itself that's rattling, and not the cloth-covered interior panel, or one of the links in the mechanism? If it's the lid, I'd replace the seal.

It's def the lid. I removed the liner and I could move the lid up and down from the inside with it closed.

THIS IS GREAT! I was hoping someone would have tried this. Which is the correct part number?

There are 2- #2's. Or is it #13?

Not quite sure I follow. What happens when you open the sunroof? :)

I hope the gasket fixes it. I don't mind if you bump...I needed an answer!

Here is a link on removing the sunroof. I followed these instructions

Link to where I found rust under my sunroof panel- pleas check yours

I believe there are two gaskets a thin and a thick gasket. BMA advised the thin gasket. That is what I used and everything is much tighter, but not binding

So the gasket is the solution. Thanks guys!
I guess I'll hold off on it then since it's not leaking or anything ... I'm getting tired of spending money on this car. :(

You find enough change for coffee.
