Love it... Hate it... I'd like your opinions please!
This is just after the first coat. I'll also be coloring the ASX lettering right after the 'Ecsta' as well.
Thanks

Let me guess ...you are under 20yo?No, over 30 - however, I think the yellow lettering looks cool.
If I were 20'ish I would probably have pretty expensive tires and wheels, but unfortunately my expensive wheel tire budget is tied up in other mods and family expenses for now.
OTOH I have to defend my Khumo purchase, because the price was very reasonable for a high treadwear (420), all-season, AA traction, A temp. This should be a good 30,000mile tire, if I treat them well. Besides, my wife is Thai... so a little rice should be acceptable, right? ;)

Let me guess... your car runs on Continentals because they MUST be the best tire seeing as BMW specced them and they are expensive. Kumho makes some great tires in a variety of applications - they make a top tier autocross tire, this year they will have a strong top tier street tire class tire, wet tire, and a variety of affordable and well performing road tires. Let me guess... you are well over 20 and remember the days when anything from Korea must be garbage seeing as it comes from Korea? Good riddance.

IMO if ANYTHING has to be qualified with the phrase 'for the price' it is a compromise. Kumho, Falken, Nitto, Hankook, Fuzion etc will never have the respect of name brand tires ...nor will they have the performance in the near future. They belong on the tuner / ricer Civics ...not on a fine German automobile. They make a 'cheap' tire and you get what you pay for.

Yes ...my BMW runs on Continentals ...my Miata and Ferrari have Pirelli ...my wifes Lexus has Bridgestone and my GF's Mercedes has Michelin. I do not judge quality based on price ...however I will not sacrafice quality to save a few bucks ...I don't settle for 'good enough'. Kumho makes 'good enough' tires ...they make cheap tires ...they DO NOT make 'great' tires.

That's my point. A set of Kumhos will embarrass your Continentals in a variety of benchmarks. You clearly cant care that much about the merits of the product if you continue to run Continentals, arguably the worst performance tire in existence currently.

I am sorry but you are DEAD wrong. I have run the following tires on track/street/auto-x/highway.
Pilot Sport
Pilot Sport PS2
Yoko ES100
Kumho MX
Falken RT615
Hankook RS2
Bridgestone SO3 - Crap tire IMHO
ContiSport2 - Crap tire again
And now I have a garage stocked full of Hankook track tires.
Do you read any post in here? The RT615 and RS2 and MX are almost the tire of choice for entry level track tires or ultra high performance street tires. Why spend 2x the cost on PS2's when the MX and RS2 have equal grip? That would just be ignorant. Do you enjoy telling people you spent 200 dollars a tire?

It does however look ok on a track car or at least a track grade tire....for off-season winter tires I'd have to say no. Then again a 420 treadwear tire on a Kosei K-1 is amusing enough! :D

Thanks everyone for your inputs and feedback. I intend to do some auto-X on these tires so I will try to see if I can run some good summer and/or track tires too and give my feedback on the all seasons later this year. I guess the yellow letter is some-what like the french foglights. love/hate. I intend to try it out and see if it grows on me. I'm not a big nascar fan, but who knows, maybe I'll catch some attention from circle-track fans, and get them interested in slaloms. Thanks :)

Wow
I think your way to wrapped up in what the brand biased sales rep at the local Ferrari dealership had to say about Pirelli. wow.
I don't know where you've been for the last 10 years, but all the "no respect" brands you named have big time repect in just about every category in motorsport. Fuzion may be the only notable name that has not gained alot of attention yet, but Fuzion is made by Bridgestone if I am not mistaken! Thats one of the "name brands" you mentioned, correct??
I have Falkens on my e36 and i'll buy them again, I don't care if they are more or less than whatever is out there, they work well with my chassis and thats all that matters. Your Ferrari may work well with the P-zero's that came on it, but every single race car i've ever driven that was equipped with p-zero's benefited more from a simple tire brand swap than from 50hrs of on track testing. Just because you buy them, does not make them the best, period.
// Rant.
BTW, lets see some pics of these cars. I'm not all that sure you're much over 20 with an arrogant attitude like that. Your demeanor puts you in the 17-18yo range.

What kind of older person who has the means to afford a 6 cars doesn't possess simple grammar? What kind of person who has been writing for many years misspells common everyday words like "sacrafice?" And for that matter, what kind of older person uses things like "IMO" or ASCII faces of a cat? In other threads he brags about making over $100k a year and brags about his wife and GF, but yet in other threads he is buying the wrong wheels for a car citing "he is feeling cheap" because they are $200 including used tires?

Of all the names you quoted, you have not as of yet named an off brand tire.
I would agree that some "off brand" tires such as, "Nexen", "Wanli", "Sonar" are cheap, and are of poor quality. But then again you will find those mostly on the cars that deserve them.
We all value our asses, thats why we DON"T use Conti's, or Pirelli's and we do use name brand tires such as the ones you mentioned before. Falken, Nitto, Hankook...to name a few.
I'm not sure if you are aware of this, but your main tire manufacturer uses racing to develop new concepts (Pirelli), and another one of your favorites just happens to be only tire supplier for the highest tier in motor racing. Bridgestone in F1.
The only things between your ass and the road were most likely developed as
a result of countless hours of race car testing and race car abuse.
I agree with you nascar is lame(i assume this is the racing you speak of, hailing from Alabama and all..), but RACING, now that's a beautiful thing....

Till then, I'd have to say like others have stated.
No on the daily street use, sure for AutoX'n/Track.Reasonable request. I'm still slowly piecing the car together after finishing my 5-spd trans swap. I can drive it around and stuff, but cosmetically, the rest of the car is in no condition to be photographed at the moment. However, the way this is going, this thread might just still be alive by the time I finish (say, two or three more weeks?). Then I could post pics of the whole car :D ..But really it's just a black 325i/4dr. Nothing fancy. The lettering is really a silly detail - that makes little difference one way or another - that I thought ppl might find interesting. It hardly warrants debating the morality of a 3-some. :stickoutt
but anyway... to the op... why don't you color the "all season" writing on the tire yellow? it just seems ironic to me that you're running Kosei K1 wheels and are concerned with a tire having high tread-wear. track days, auto-x,.... and high treadwear??? are you autocrossing in the snow?Haven't tried auto-crossing in the snow, it'd be an fun alternative to drifting.
The "All Season" is in some type of cursive script that is also quite a bit smaller font, plus it's located between the make/model lettering (not visually balanced), & you know artists have to have everything "just-so" ;) Actually it did cross my mind to color it in with red, but the wife gave me "that look" when I mentioned it.
Regarding my tire selection and auto-crossing... I'm not that serious about auto-crossing yet. I've gone there for 2 years with my friends, but have never raced. I even got a number in 2007, but that's when my tranny decided to bite the dust. I see myself entering no more than 3 or 4 events this year, so stickiness lost out to longevity.
Typically I take my car on 3-4 road trips a year (to Texas or Norcal), plus my commute is 100 miles a day, so my best dollar is spent on tires that last long and can handle the elements. Maybe next year I will get a track-duty set, but this year it didn't make sense. (btw, I don't/won't drive the bimmer to work a lot, but occasionally)
I got the K1's because they look great and have a good reputation and track-record for being light, strong, reliable... and very affordable. If I had a bigger budget I might have gotten Beyern, ASA or HRE's or something more exotic, but I'm happy with the K1's. Fit finish is everything I expected.
In an earlier post I said that intended to auto-cross on this tire, but that wasn't as clear as it could have been. I should have worded it... I intend to auto-cross this year, but I never intended to get tires based solely on auto-cross. These tires will have to do unless I can borrow a set of stickier tires from someone for a run or two. I would like to do that just for the sake of an A-B comparison.
Anyho... that's where I'm coming from. Frugality is the word of the day. I'm usually the type of guy who refuses to pay double or triple to get that last 5% out of something. Hence no CAI or expensive exhaust system on my cars ;)
...But someday my car will grow up to be a REAL track car! :D
Thanks for your posts :)
