Hello all.
I am new to this forum...back in the day I spent quite a bit on forums like this as I tweeked my '73 2002.
Here is my issue and any help or insight would be excellent.
My 1995 525iT with 150K has started to "stutter" when I put her under load either accelerating or just reving the engine. Other than that the engine runs nice and smooth. I checked the usually things deemed by Bently that require a voltmeter or simple tools: intake leaks, spark plugs, throttle position sens. etc with no luck. The check engine light came on a few times with a 1222 code (O2 sensor reading a rich air/fuel mixutre).
Now, this all happened after I had to "hard" start my wagon after sitting in -20 degree F weather for two days. This means that the combustion chambers and exhaust were contaminated with raw fuel. I pulled into a heated garage, thawed over night, and then hard start the next day. This has happened a few times with this vehicle over the past 3 years up in the Arctic. The check engine light always comes on with the same code (rich air/fuel mixture). To remedy it, I would always run her really hard on the hwy to burn off all of that raw fuel caught in the exhaust.
I recently noticed that it runs very smooth under load right after start up. ONce the engine has a few minutes to warm up, it starts acting up.
I will spend the day checking every ignition, fuel, and intake component to narrow it down.
