So I changed my spark plugs 3 days ago because the old ones were the originals from 95 and they looked very worn. I checked the new plugs today and they have a bunch of carbon looking material on them. Checked my chiltons guide and they say that this means the plug is "carbon fouled." I am assuming that it is running rich. What should I change/check? I am thinking of changing out the 02 sensor, which could be sending a bad signal to the DME. Also, I have the euro hfm kit from turner, could the Jim C chip be making my engine run bad? I have never heard of this problem before, so I think I am going to change the 02 sensor first. Any ideas would be great. Thanks.

BTW, this problem is making my car run 14.6-15.0 second 1/4 mile times at the track, so it is definetly taking power.

Kevlar had a problem with Jim C software running very rich, so that might be it.

Spencer,

How many miles are on the car? Could be the o2 sensor...gone bad.

How far are you from ERT (Delaware)? They can put the car on the dyno and look at the fuel/air ratio. Then they can customize the Jim C chip (yes, they have his burner). Might cost $$$, but you'll have it dialed in for sure.

Just an idea...

Yup... my car ran real rich with the JimC software. 11.8:1 at something like 5000rpms.

That's OBD-II software...3.2L cars, his is a 3.0L and I am sure the software is a bit different.

I have his OBD-I software and it does not run rich.

My 1995 M3 actually only has 30k miles on it, that is why I am a little suprised that it could be the 02 sensor, I hear they last up to about 100k miles, but then again, the car is over 6 years old, so age could be kicking in also.

I am actually in the market for a new chip so that I can install my 24 lb injectors but I think Jim C is the only chip that makes a euro hfm/24lb injector chip. Anyone know if any other company makes this combo chip?

As far as ERT, I am in CA, so that wont work. But in my area there is a place called DynoSpotRacing and they have a dyno which they use to burn GIAC chips, so I might want to check into that also. Thanks for the help.

Btw, do you guys think this problem could be from anything other than the O2 sensor or the chip? Also, can a BMW dealer use the diagnostic tool to do something like this? Any help would be great. Thanks
