Hi -

Both the right and the left sections of my windshield molding have stripped off (it's windy where I am), and I'm looking to replace these but having a LOT of trouble finding the part (and especially finding it inexpensively). Has anyone else had to replace the windshield moldings on a similarly old car (1993)? Any suggestions/help you can offer?

Many thanks.

BMW prices for these are CRAZY ($180 each or so I think) - find a junkyard - they are not hard to remove.

They aren't hard to remove, but they are hard to remove intact. You can't just yank them off, so be careful! They need to be persuaded gently. And they are ridiculously expensive.

Certainly. I'll see what pics I have on my digital camera at home and send them to you. On this comp I think I just have the altered one. I bought the car with these rims and at the time, totally didn't care that they were a bit out of the ordinary - but now I'm really quite fond of them.

I've found the molding at a couple of places (mileoneparts and OEM) but the cheapest PER SIDE runs around $110. I haven't looked for junkyards around where I am, mainly because it's very cold right now and, even if I were more accepting of the crappy weather, I think the conditions aren't great for getting the moldings off any car I could find that would fit. So I'll probably go ahead and buy them and hope for a dry day soon (no garage, either. Lame.)

I don't get any wind noise or seem to have any problem from the windshield, at least right now - we've been having some terrible storms and the car's done fine so far. Hopefully that will last til I can fix the problem.
