01 E39 540i engine noise

My 01 540i "growls" when it's first started after not being run for more than a day. It sounds like the timing chain is loose. As soon as oil pressure builds it goes away. 2 or 3 seconds. if you shut the car off and restart, no noise.

My engine has a "clattering" noise when I start it in the morning. I've been told that it is the valve train and that this is normal and nothing to be concerned about. Hope this helps.

This is the typical sound that occurs as the oil flows to the Vanos system. There is nothing to be alarmed about.

There is a thread that was posted up within the last 3 days about this very same noise. It was coming form the Vanos.
