My father's E39 01 525t is having intermittent blower problems where the blower goes on and off. I have an E36 and know about their climate control issues, do E39s have similar issues? Is this a final stage resistor problem or something else? Could it be related to occasional cruise control turning itself off??

Any ideas would be appreciated as I am a simple E36 kind of guy!

Thanks. Didn't understand the first reply. Out comes the book to find the FSU.

First reply means:
1) it is most likely the Final Stage Unit, it makes the fans work whenever the hell they want or quit working whenever the hell they want
2) Before i got my 540 i wanted to buy a Mitsu 3000GT VR-4 and since i have heard they break down a lot i congratulated you on your signature

My 2002 530i did the same thing.
Replaced FSU and all is well.
One DIY in a line of more to come.......

The sig is actually the artwork from a bumper sticker given to me. We have a member up in the Boston Chapter who had two of the blasted things. They never ever ever worked for a full day at the track. Those things broke in ways unimaginable. Way to complicated and heavy.

Soooo he sold his and bought a vette. Meanwhile I have caught his disease as my E36 M3 spent most of the last two years on trailers being hauled home from the track with this or that broken (sometimes twice or three times). Hence the sticker to replace my M3 logo.
