I have a clunk emitting from the rear end. First thing that comes to mind are the RSMs. I ventured out into the cold to take pictures from the bottom up as I didnt have enough daylight or time to properly pull carpet and all that. I hope someone can tell if it looks ok.

First thing is the drivers side:

Then the other, where I notice more sounds (I think)

And a random I took at the same time...

Well it looks like there isn't any damage to the shock towers, yet. But the RSM bushing could still be toast. You need to pull the carpet and look at it from the top. Move the shock around and push down on the trunk(compress the shock) see how much free play there is in the RSM. That should tell you if it needs to be replaced.
They are really cheap why not replace them anyways if you dont know last time they were done and get the Z3 plates no matter what even if the RSM are new. $40-$50 now is a lot better then $600-$700 later on.

Exactly. I plan on doing either the stockers with the reinforcement or the RE. Plan on getting those ordered in the next week or so. Thanks btw

You can't even see the RSM's from there, they are on top.. pulling the carpet takes about 5 seconds, I dunno why everyone bitches about it.

it's the inside, best way is to remove it from the car and play with it. then you can hear the noise.

I just replaced my shock mounts and put new dampers in while I was down there was very easy, I was done in just over an hour. It fixed my clunking sound.

I have no idea what could be causing your clunk, but I really like Estoril and wanted to tell you. KTHNXBYE.

pop the trunk and pull the carpet back. You get a much better view of the tower and can investigate for hairline cracks that could end up being disaster!

Dont be suprised to find a bunch of rubber shreads surrounding the area of the rsm. Mine had this but no cracks. the rsm bushing was so worn i could wiggle the shock inside it

hope its okay. good luck.
