So my wife was driving home in snow this evening (~30 degrees F) in stop and go traffic and her 2007 Cooper (non-S) overheated. She pulled over and called Roadside assistance, but this does not seem like normal vehicle function. The car was taken to the dealer so I can't check the production date right now, I found some info online about failed fan fuses and overheating (for which there is a recall). Does anyone here have any experience with this or a related problem?

I do know the dealer has made a big effort to change out
those fan fuses.

It was the fuse after all. We had not received our letter yet, so that's a little annoying. However, no damage to the engine.

We are pretty sure it was the fan/fuse issue. It was repaired by MINI and has been fine ever since. Good luck!

You can search recalls here and see if there are any out there for your car:

My Z4 went through a phase when it would randomly overheat. Then it just stopped doing it. The first time it did it was at an autocross where luckily two BMW techs were in attendance. They couldn't find anything wrong. I took it to the dealership, they couldn't find anything wrong. Then it just stopped doing it. I never figured out what the cause of the problem was.

Random overheats in a Z4? Bubbles in the coolant lines. Short spikes in temperature I would assume?

as far as cold weather, my e46 and my e85 (z4) both had tstats freeze shut on me. Hasn't happened on my mini... yet...
