Just wondering if minis have clutch delay valves like many BMWs? My brother has a 2005 Mini and his clutch is very difficult to take off smoothly (car vibrates and makes a lot of noise unless you rev the hell out of it taking off) and I have a feeling it might be a defective CDV. Any one know for sure?

I have never heard of one being installed on the MINI, nor have I ever read talk of one being removed. Granted, I've only been involved with MINIs since 2003, so I could have missed any talk about them in the early years.

It sounds a lot like the dual mass flywheel might be giving up the ghost - that happened to a friend of mine's 2005. I replaced his stock flywheel with a lightweight unit.

hmm...his mini has 56k miles and I've never really heard of a flywheel going out...the next time he visits I'll check under there to see if I spot a CDV and post it here if I find anything. The car isn't inoperable, it's more of an annoyance than anything....in gear the car is fine and it's still smooth when shifting; it's just different when taking off than it used to be...

and BTW, I ENVY the steering response in the mini! AMAZING!

I've seen alot of faulty flywheels. Also I recently have had a run of slave cylinders fail. So I'd check those 2 things first. Usually the flywheel make a clicking noise.

MINIs don't use a clutch delay valve.

That's interesting...his doesn't make a clicking noise, but it does jutter and kinda clunks for a while before beginning to move. Are there any sites with cheap mini parts? Because I'm sure the stealer wouldn't be cheap for a slave cylinder...

Cool, thanks for answering.

Hmm, I'm not so sure. Looking at the hydraulic lines, for at least the 07+, there are a few suspect parts that could act as a pressure drop device. The clutch line has a saucer looking piece in-line and another bulge before the slave. Heck there could be a small orfice at the mouth of the slave or any of the fittings.

My R56 clutch take up is pretty unpredictable as if there is a CDV or restrictor.

Either way, I'm late to the party and have an R56.

The flywheel failed in each of the R53s we owned ('02 and '04, both 'S').

I believe the R53 Cooper S did have a CDV, by the way. At least according to Dave Zeckhausen.

The slave in my '05 just went this week. Replaced it, clutch still not right, doing master cyl next (60k miles).....
