So, I had to replace the plastic sliders as well as regulator on my 4/94 production E36 M3 yesterday. The slider's as well as the arm that sits behind the regulator car had snapped while rolling the window down. Everything is back on correctly now. I have lubbed the slider area with white lithuium, the leftmost window channel with WD40 & all of the regulator parts as well as motor/regulator gear with white lithium.

Now, when my door is open, automatic as well as manual rolling of the window up & down work perfect, no problems.

..When the door is shut, sometimes automatic/manual rolling up works, rolling down always works.

This is beginning to get very aggravating. Thus far, to 'reset' the windows which has seemed to help some I have:

(1) Close door w/ window down, insert key, turn to lock(hold 10 seconds) / This was supposed to make my window automatically roll up, it didn't do anything.
(2) Roll the window up, roll the window down while holding the down button & continuing to hold down for 5-15 seconds after window has moved completely down.
(3) Roll the window up, roll the window down with 2 presses followed by holding the down button on the second press & continuing to hold down for 5-15 seconds after window has moved completely down.
(4) Unplug - terminal on battery for 20 minutes.

So far, nothing has worked & I am out of options.

The window will go up, sometimes it will go all the way up, sometimes it will go half way up, then 1-2 inches back down. If I press up again, sometimes it will go all the way up from where it sits & sometimes it will just go up & right back down a few inches.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

ck the striker plate and look at the microswitch.
If it's worn, the switch will think the door is not fully closed, so you will get this erratic behavior.
That's one thing.
Another is, your window might be out of alignment and the window is placing too much pressure on the stripping when moving, so it sticks bc the resistance to movement is
excessive.

Lastly, you apparently haven't initialized the window.
Roll all the way down then up and hold for 5 or so seconds.

Thank you Balthazarr, I forgot to put in the initializing of the window, with so many different things attempted I missed one typing it all back from memory a few seconds ago. I have inspected the striker switch, it does have a slight bit missing, I was unaware that could have caused this simply because when the door is shut, the window does seal & I had none of these problems until the white plastic sliders broke on me & I had to replace the regulator, I will stop by the dealer to pick up this microswitch & replace it, hopefully it's not very expensive. Thanks again, if anyone else has any ideas feel free to spill them incase the microswitch replacement doesn't work :)

One more thing I forgot to mention, do you know which bolts control the alignment of the window? The window was never removed to do the regulator swap (simply worked around), but it's worth as taking a second glance after the alignment being mentioned does appear to struggle somewhat when going up, Thanks!

Lube the stripping. See if that helps.
Use that Gummipflege substitute, Wurth's.

You can build up the microswitch button with epoxy.
That's what I used.
