I use Royal Purple 10-30 and I have no complaints about it.
I was using Castrol syntheic oil.
I use that weight just because it works for me in any type of weather condition.

For the Coolant, I am pretty sure you can use Prestone from Kragen or
just go to the dealer and pick up some coolant. It might cost more then Kragen but will be worth it in the long run.

Jeez, go buy a manual. My S50 takes 7 qts of 15-50 in summer, and 10-40 in winter.

Just buy BMW COOLANT. 1 gal coolant and 1 gal of distilled water. I mean you are only changing it every 2 years... So what it's $15?

I'm running 10-40 Royal Purple right now, and +1 for the BMW coolant/distilled water.

oh dear lord. Slow computers or not, this thread annoys me immensely. When was the last oil thread? Exactly one week ago I bet. :shifty

The manual recommends 5w-30 synthetic. Start with that, and vary based on how your car tends to react. I personally have gone to 5w-50. Others do 5w-40, 10w-40, 20w-50, 10w-50, etc.

Use BMWs blue coolant (or mercedes, I've heard it is same stuff, but cheaper by the gallon). However, when you add coolant, it is supposed to be a 50/50 mix of the coolant and distilled water.
