He would be refering to this link #8 here http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=NA73&mospid=47758&btnr=33_1171&hg=33&fg=45 as a "upgrade" for the front sway bar/anti roll bar links :help

Hmm that link rod looks like it has 2 ball joints instead of a through bush on the lower arm mounting. that should mean a much stiffer coupling, ideal for lowered stiffened and poly-bushed applications.

Could not find any other stab. link from another car to fit this application. so i was looking at the e60 rear links and that did the trick!!!!!!!!!!!!!.... one addittional thing that has to be removed from the e60 rear link is the conical washer on the M12 stud side of the link.

mswiss,
the reason why this was done is because it drastically improved handling. . . you should try it out yourself to witness this ! ! ! ! ! ! !

The Sway bar/anti roll bar is only a secondary measure. The road springs/shocks should do most of the work to stop the car from leaning,so they may make a improvement but drastic is a bit tall.

Tefal let me tell you something ..... that stab. links make a big diff in handling like for example on the e30 & e36 front links have a rubber bushing and a ball joint. but the e60 rear link has 2 ball joints. that were the difference is. stabilizer bar/links plays a role in keeping the from rolling in chicanes and so on..... check it out yourself. try the upgrade and you will see what i am talking about.

Way to innovate and all, but I'm not trusting my car not to mention my life or any poor bystander with an idea that has been tested for ONE day.
We dont know if there are any weird torsional affects that degrade the m60 link, nor do we know if they are designed in such a way to be effective under certain circumstances that come into play being placed in the front of the car which greater load from steering comes into affect.

If your sway bar letting go is going to kill you or an "poor bystander" then you are driving way too hard. Sway bars are not required to keep the car on the road, turn or stop. It just improves handling. Granted a sudden weight shift could be exciting but like I said if your at the limit on a public road your driving way too hard in the first place.

DIY for the e60 rear links: (Does Not apply to the M-series)
remove the old front stab. links with the bracket out of the E36 or E30.
you need the following parts:
1. Rear stabilizer links P/N : 33-50-6-781-540 (x2)
2. Collar nut P/N : 33-32-6-760-374 (x2)
after you remove the old link then you will need a 12mm reemer for steel and drill out the hole in the control arm .......
before you install the e60 link you need to remove the countersink washer that is on the M12 stud of the link. this could be done various ways. ....... on a bench vise.....or hydr. press.
once you have finished this then you can install the e60 links and tighten them.
you will need to re-use the 16mm nut from the old link ....unless its rusted .... make sure that the top nut on the link does not get a washer with the nut.......
if there is any other questions feel free to give me a call..... my number is up top. Or you could have it done here at my place ! ! ! ! ! ! make appointment.
TOOLS needed:
1. torx socket set.
2. 16mm socket 3/8" nominal drive
3. 3/8" nominal drive rachet
4. 16mm open end wrench
5. reemer for steel
6. Drill or die-grinder
7. safety glasses
8. 19mm Gearwrench
last but not least ........ need a BMW ahaha

Interesting write up I think I'll try it on my DD. It is a good alternative to running M3 struts and stabilizer links.
BTW this really isn't an experiment since he is using swaybar links as .. well swaybar links. We use alternative BMW parts as upgrades all the time. E46 M3 convertible shock mounts for any BMW, 7 ser engine mounts on E30 M3's etc etc etc.

Just think of it this way ... that e60 is a bigger car than the e36....... these stabilizer links are heavy duty compared to the oem e36 front stabilizer links.
these e60 rear stab. links will probably work for the rear stabilizer links on all e36's with aftermarket stabilizer bars. but not sure yet.
