Hey guys i have a problem and im wondering if anyone can help.
I have a 2004 745i with 21 inch wheels and i just bought new 285/30zr-21 pzero tires for it like three months ago and as you can imagine these were not cheap. I ran over something the other day and it made a .5 inch cut in the tire and im hopeing i can get it fixed but i dont know if you can fix runflat tires. Any input would be great i would love not to have to buy another $500 tire when this one is new. If anyone knows a shop in the austin area that can help that would be great aswell

Thanks

No, unfortunately you cannot repair a runflat tire. The reason for that is the manufacturer or the person who sold you the tire has no idea how long you've driven on that tire flat...therefore since a runflat never truly goes flat, some people may never know they've been driving on a flat and the sidewall at that point would be heavily stressed.

Here's a good example of why you shouldn't repair a runflat...

The damage in this runflat tire is obviously in a very repairable spot:

However, further inspection on the tire shows that because of the stress on the sidewall possibly being due to it being driven on flat caused this:

Had this crack not been noticed and the tire been repaired...or had this crack not quite formed and then the tire been repaired...that's a stressed area and an accident waiting to happen.

Any puncture over 1/4" shouldn't be fixed on any tire anyways.
