just curious, anyone ever made this into a shift light? Can it be done? I figure with me getting cams soon, why the hell not make some use of it since it's just sitting there

I know I have a schematic laying around here that involves resistance and a relay.

Yea since I'm gettin the cams, an oil cooler is definitely on my list to get.
But I'd rather have an actual gauge for that kind of thing, that way I can keep an eye on it versus suddenly saying oh shit.

why not run a simple oil temp sensor? many of us (including myself) run oil temp, oil pressure and water temp gauages (among other things) in our cars.
Oil temperature doesn't shoot up quickly unless you set a flame to it so direct line of sight isn't a huge priority. An a-pillar or sunglass pod setup will work great.

^that's what I was planning on doing. I was just curious how easy it was to get the M in the dash to light up and actually have a purpose

EstorilRoc,
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it is very difficult to get the M logo to light up. I looked into doing this before and came across the following thread. Looks like way too much effort. But be my guest and prove me wrong. I really can't understand why BMW didn't have this illuminated in the first place.

I know just for shits and giggles it has a cool factor.

because having an always illuminated M is useless. And it's a sure sign that you have a small penis. With all the Ms in the car, do you really need one that's illuminated?

That comment made me laugh. It is amazing the lengths people will go to be unique. I think that is awesome if someone has the time and patience/

jeez i didn't think it was that big of a deal but apparently having a little interior light will determan your manhood. i'm gonna turn off all the lights and see how big my penis gets :stickoutt

Nice retort, it this where you pronouce the size of yours cause you dont have your M lite up? :rolleyes
Having it lit up is as useless as it just being there, or the BMW in the middle of your wheel, or the tri-color stiching in the wheel, and on and on.... They are all useless, but to some add a coolness factor.
Take your hate out on your blow up doll or something..... :D
Joking, but I do hate haters...if you don't like it that's cool, but why be-little someone elses idea of cool?
