My car never had a remote key less system but i looked in the trunk and it says it is prewired. Is it simply buying the system (i think it was roughly 150) and its plug and play? Or is there something more complicated i am missing?

That's more or less it. The alarm/remote brain connects in the dash under the glove compartment, and there's a siren to install in the engine compartment. Plug and play. I believe that the original BMW/Alpine alarm system is NLA, but there are used ones on eBay all the time.

For a bit more more money you can get a more up-to-date system from http://www.unitedautosecurity.com/ that integrates the remote transmitter into the BMW ignition key, like most current cars, instead of having a separate dongle. I have one of these and like it a lot.

I have the UAS system mentioned above and i LOVE it. My friend from HS actually works for the company, and theyre good guys. I've had mine for about a year and it works flawlessly just like OEM.

I checked out that site and looks like some good stuff. So the install was relatively simple as long as your pre-wired?
Also did you get a chip put in the new key so that you can start your car with it? If so what did you do to get that done?
