View Full Version : E46/E39 ///M Replica Trunk Lip **Group Buy Closed Now**!!!

Hey Guys,
I'm working on a group buy for a replica trunk lip spoiler like the ones found on the new E46 M3s and the E39 M5s. It is made out of polyurethane. Brand new and ready to be painted. They have both sizes, E46 M3 which will also fit (obviously) E46 models and 2 door E36s. The E39 M5 lip will fit all E39s and 4 door E36s. I've heard that for use on E36 models, either M3 or M5 lip will work, its just a matter of preference, M5 lip is slightly longer than the M3 lip. Do a search on the forums, there has been plenty of discussions on it.
Here's the deal, we need 15 people to participate, so that means I need 14 other people along with myself for this group buy to go through. Pricing for 15+ lip spoilers will be $28!!!
I'm still trying to work out the details on shipping, so once I find out the cost on shipping, I will post asap.
As for who we will be getting it from, it's a seller on Ebay. He has only 1 negative feedback in the past 6 months. If you read through his feedback from people that have bought the lip spoiler from him before, they all say its a great product with fast shipping. He's quick with emails and has been easy to deal with. Seems legit to me!
Anyways, best price I've seen from the BMW dealers go for $110. This is almost a 1/4 of that price! I just need a show of hands to see how many people are interested in joining this GB. I'll post updates as soon as I get them. Thanks!

Hey guys,
Well I just got an email back about shipping costs. Like on the supplier's ebay auction listing, shipping is listed at $15-$20 for the lip spoiler. Shipping for the lip spoiler will be $20, making it $48 shipped 3-4 days via Express Mail. Shipping is a bit expensive, but they are being shipped from overseas. Nonetheless, $48 shipped for the lip spoiler is still a great price!
Double sided tape holds the lip spoiler onto the trunk lid. No drilling at all. The picture that Andy W posted is exactly how it would look like on our cars. You can just look at any E46 M3 or E39 M5 to see how it would look like.
All we need to do now is have a total of 15+ orders. Here's the list so far:
In:
1) rollnbmwdroptop (me)
2) ///Manuel
3) slowerthanrice
4) dinan325ic
5) robcast
6) BGM3
7) BGM3
Maybes:
1) AndyW
2) Priscoj
If anyone else is interested, please let me know, I have to give a customer list (15+ definite buyers) to the seller. So far, there is no time limit, but the sooner we get 15 people in, the sooner our cars look better :)!
If anyone has any questions, please feel free to contact me at rollnbmwdroptop@attbi.com. I will try to answer any questions that may arise.

Sounds like things are rolling! So we have a total of 10 that are in for sure. Payment will be made to the seller himself. He accepts Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, and bank money orders. I will find out exactly how to pay him and let you guys know. Also, when you do oay him, you can just let him know which lip you want, the M3 or M5.
I was just wondering if anyone has pics of an E36 2 door with the M3 lip, and another with the M5 lip. I just want to see how much of a difference there is between the two. From what I've been reading from other posts and forums, the M3 lip fits perfectly on E36 2 drs, while the M5 lip fits perfectly on the E36 4drs. The M5 lip will fit on E36 drs, but I guess it overlaps the gap between the qtr panel and the trunk lid. Does anyone have any insight on this? I'm actually still undecided on which lip to get for my '98 M3 conv.
AvusBluR, Whats up Rob, not sure if you remember me, but I've been to a few of the BMW meets in Chicago. I'm sure if I mention me spinning out into someone's front yard, you would remember. Anyways, I will find out the lengths of the M3/M5 lip for you and let you know. If you, or any other Chicago area member want to, we can have it all shipped to one address to save on some shipping cost. These lip spoilers can't weight THAT much....

E39 M5 rear spoiler (51 71 7 901 594) is 47 5/16". if i remember right, the E46 is about a ˝" shorter, i think, don't qoute me on that.

oh, and the E46 also works really well on new Audi's, like A4's and such. a friend of mine has one on his A4 1.8T. had to be shortened slightly but looks very nice. so if anyone has an Audi, don't be shy...

Not sure about painting. I have been told that the M5 one fits 4dr E36 only and M3 one fits E36 dr only
If you have a 4dr, order a M5 lip.
If you have a 2dr, order a M3 lip.
I think. Check with your dealer.

For 2-dr E36's the M5 lip is slightly longer and the M3 lip is slightly shorter. Just sand down to M5 lip and it will fit just fine. I'm not sure about the 4-dr E36's.

04-13-2003, 04:15 AM
First off, I just wanted to clarify that these lip spoilers are NOT the real BMW OEM lip spoilers from the M3/M5. These are replicas.
Anyhow.....
Just to give a little update on the group buy: I have been overwhelmed by emails! This group buy is looking great! We have over 21 people that have said they're "in" on this group buy, and 3 that are "maybes". Of the 21, I have 13 that have emailed me with all their info (BF screen name, actual name, shipping address, email address, and which lip they want). So please guys, if you haven't emailed me your info, please do so, so that I can email a customer list to the seller with your name included on this. If you are not on the list, the price will NOT be $48 shipped.
I am waiting for a reply from the seller on some questions asked:
Lengths of M3/M5 lip spoilers?
Payment methods?
Will it fit the 318ti?
Shipping costs for multiple lip spoilers shipped to one address?
Once I get a reply to these questions, I will post them on the forum, so please keep and eye out for them. I will also most likely send an email to everyone that has sent me an email with the final details on the group buy.
Fitment:
I have also been searching all over the forums (BF, DTM, etc.) for posts regarding fitment of the lip spoilers on the E36 2/4drs. From all I've read, seems that E36 4 doors must use the E39 M5 lip spoiler, while the E36 2 door can use either the E46 M3, or the E39 M5 lip. E36 2 dr w/E46 M3 lip will leave about a 1/4" gap on each side, while an E36 2dr w/E39 M5 lip will overlap lap by 1/8". IMO, the M5 lip on an E36 2 dr looks best. Another issue is that the M3 lip has more of a curvature to it, so it will not fit the flat decklid of our E36 cars as well as the M5 lip will.
So that means I'm going with a M5 lip for my E36 M3 convertible!
Thanks,
Ben Prakobkit

UPDATE:
This group buy is looking better and better, and its only been about 2 days! There is a total of 33 people that are "in". Out of the 33, 23 people are confirmed which means they have emailed me at rollnbmwdroptop@attbi.com with their info (BF user name, full name, shipping address, and lip of choice). The only reason I'm asking for all this info is because the vendor needs to have a list of people that are part of the group buy. To get the group buy price (currently $28+$20 shipping) you MUST be on that list that I give to the seller which means I need all that info.
Pricing:
Since there has been an overwhelming amount of people interested in the group buy, I will see if the price can be even lower than it already is. Currently it is $28 for 15+ group purchases. I am pretty sure he can do even less since we have almost double that!
Shipping:
Shipping will be $20 flat rate for 3-4 days Express Mail world-wide. That means for all of you in Canada, shipping will be no more than for those in the USA. Shipping seems to be on the expensive side, but these lip spoilers will be shipped from overseas.
To save on shipping you and someone else in your area may split shipping costs. It will be $25 to ship 2 lip spoilers to one address. I am still trying to find out the price for 3+ splitters, but I'm guessing that it will be $20 for first lip, then $5 for each additional lip ordered and shipped to one address. When paying, please just make one payment for all the lip spoilers ordered if being shipped to one address.
Payment:
Payment will be made through the vendor's company website. I will post the link to it after sending the customer list to the vendor. I will let everyone know when and how to pay.
Time:
There is really no time limit, but I will just end this on Friday (4/18/03) at midnight so that we can get our lip spoilers asap!
Random questions asked:
-Approx. lengths of lip spoilers: M3=46" M5=47"
-Is double sided tape included: Yes, 3M tape.
-Will it fit the 318 Ti? Not quite sure yet, measure your trunk lid and pick whichever that is closest.
If I missed anyone's question, please ask again and I'll try to answer it. Thanks for all of those that have joined this group buy!!
Thanks,
Ben Prakobkit

am I wrong, or is the E46 M3 spoiler a good deal higher than the M5 one? I mean, when it curves up towards the sky.
anyone know the dimensions? It looks like it could be like a half an inch difference or so.

I'm like 99% in for an M5 one.....how would this look on my E34?

does anyone know what the OEM spoiler is made out of? What I am asking is if the quality of the replica is the same as the original? This concerns me when dealing with replicas.
If it is high quality count me in for an M5 one. Thanks

The guy is very bad in responding to emails. I've sent him several in the last 4 days and still no response.
I bet we have over 40 ppl interested in the GB so far, and we only needed 15!
He better give us a damn good deal.
I suppose the material doesn't matter as there is little stress on this piece, just conerned with aesthetic finish quality. May not be as nice as the OEM. But then again, it could be an exact duplicate and save us some $$. How many have seen the replica in person?

I hope you are wrong......
These spoilers should have very little, if any curve to them.
They should however bend like that under some pressure.
From the looks of them in the picture, they are very similar to the stock, unpainted spoilers I've seen.

All I can say is if this tanks or the product is junk, there will be a lot of cranky BMW and Audi owners roaming around looking for a pound of beef for the BBQ :b_blue:
Good work so far Ben............... these things are a pain in the ass. Given these kind of numbers, you should get the guy to call you and talk to him first hand.
OR, someone should buy a factory stealership one, and have a mold made to duplicate it given the reponse here. Money to be made I think.................. how much dough could it be to make a eurathane mold for a stick like this unless it's illegal and puts you in the can :help

BMW_Dinan:if its fiberglass then its not worth it. fiberglass sux.. and if anything urethane is much better.. wen u pull it outta the mold.. lotsa times the fiberglass will retard.. i think urethane is much better.. well its stronger anyway..
And yeah she's def a hottie.. i wish i knew who she was..
:( heh
tominizer:heh good 1 stealership =)..
But anyway, it may be stronger/more flexible.. but how about the mold itself? what if this dude from HK didn't even buy an OEM m5 spoiler to make this.. like he jus did it hand crafted.. -- i know its hard to believe, cuz he'd be retarded, plus he does have some good ebay responses.. main point, it may be bendable/strong but how is the actual shape and smoothness? If its all bumpy, it'll cost us more to sand and prep for paint than the spoiler itself..
Well jus beeing negative here, hopefully it'll turn out good..
plus its from Hk, wut if it has sars.. HEh...
:D
jk btw..

yo nathan, those were the exact concerns I had as to the finish quality. Is it identicle to OEM or some cheap knock off that is bumpy and lumpy and will deform after a few years?? Pacific sent me an OEM yesterday. I may return it if the replica is super nice........I hope the dude man organizing this writes back and answers all of our question ASAP!!!

Final Update/Details:
First off, I would just like to thank everyone that has participated in this group buy. I'm sorry if I didn't answer some questions. Everything has been pretty hectic with hundreds of emails being exchanged back and forth.
There will be over 50+ orders placed for the lip spoilers! Good job guys!
So here are all the finalized details:
Pricing: $28
-Unfortunately, the price of the lip spoiler cannot go any lower than it already is. I was told by the vendor that the mark-up on the group buy price is as low as he can go. $28 is still a great deal though!!
Shipping: $20 ($5 for each additional lip)
-Shipping will be $20 for Express mail 3-4 days world-wide. Same price for everyone, even if you're from the USA, to Canada, or even Hungary! If you would like to save on shipping, try finding someone else in your area and order with them. The first lip ordered will cost $20 to ship, and each additional lip ordered and shipped to the same address will cost $5 to ship. So 2 lip spoilers=$25, 3 lip spoilers=$30, 4 lip spoilers=$35, and so on. To save on shipping, they must be ordered by one person, and shipped to that same person. So if a group of people are trying to ship together, please just place one order for how-ever-many lip spoilers needed along with one payment.
Payment: Credit Card
-Credit cards will be the only form of acceptable payment. Sorry, you cannot pay with money order, checks, or cash. It must be paid with a credit card (Visa, M/C, Discover, American Express, etc.).
How to pay:
-Please go to http://www.aero-dynamic.biz/order/index.asp You will pay the vendor directly there.
-Under "Price$" put in the total amount you will be paying including shipping (ie. $28+$20=$48). If ordering more than one, put in total including discounted shipping costs.
-Under "Quantity" always put in 1, no matter how many spoilers being purchased.
-Under "Product Description", put in "(quantity) BMW M3 trunk lip spoiler" or "(quantity BMW M5 trunk lip spoiler"
-Also mention/include "Bimmerforums Group Buy" at the end
Follow directions from there on...
There should be a confirmation email sent to you after placing order.
Everything is in stock, so they should be shipped out asap! Feel free to email me any questions. Thanks again for those that have made this group buy successful!
Regards,
Ben Prakobkit

Thanks, my car is definately a work in progress.
The reason I ask about length, is I bought one that "fits the A4" but is only 45.5", and someone measured the OEM one as 46"
I want to make sure I get the proper length.

Hey Guys,
I got mine today too! I was a bit pissed that no one was home yesterday when the mailman came, so I had to go pick it up at the post office today. Anyways, I got home and unwrapped it....hoping that the lip spoiler was not contaminated with Sars since it does come from HK. Looks great! Comes with the 3M tape on it. The edges were a tad bit rough, so I just took some sand paper and sanded them smooth. For only $48, its GREAT!! Very flexible and looks good. I suggest that anyone that has not yet purchased one, do so now!!! I'll have pics of it painted/mounted on my car by Friday.
Thanks again to all those that made this GB possible!

I got mine today as well very nice M5 for an e36 sedan.
Needs a little prep on the ends but otherwise it's a sweet fit.
What's up with the tape already being stuck to the part?
Do you just paint the top?
Forgive me if that's an obvious question but I just assumed the I would prime and paint the whole part then mount it.
Am I confused?
rollnbmwdroptop
05-01-2003, 12:41 AM
Basically, just paint the entire thing. Leave the red sticker part attached to the tape when painting. After painting, just peel off the red sticker and mount. The paint should not affect the adhesive if the red sticker is still on it while painting.
Salar
05-01-2003, 04:25 AM
My suggestion would be to remove the 3M adhesive alltogether and purchase the tape which is supplied at the dealer. The adhesive that comes with the spoiler does not seem to be as strong as the OEM ones, to deter theives/160mph speeds.

Got mine today, looks awesome! I got the M5 size and filed the edges for a perfect fit! Indeed, the finish wasn't great, so I wet sanded (very easy) the imperfections. Really adds a lot to the rear of the car. Couldn't be happier.
One down note was the packaging. It was very well protected but given the flexibility of the "plastic" I guess it's not very fragile.

Well I threw some 1500 and 2000 grit sand paper into a bowl of warm water. Let them soak, then sanded the imperfections and dipped the sand paper in the water once in a while to keep it wet. The texture is very easy to sand down for a perfect finish. I filed the edges to make it fit perfectly flush on the trunk lid.

When I dropped mine off to be painted, the folks there said that the 3M red stuff is about the strongest stuff you can get. They use it to attach wheel weights when they balance wheels, so it can't be all that weak.
You just have to prep the trunklid properly (i.e.-remove ALL the wax in the adhesion area), and it should stay on just fine, from what they told me. :dunno

Just to give everyone a piece of mind!
I went to Ben's WorkPlace Yesterday and checked this thing out and it was perfect! His is already painted and should be on his car in a matter of a few days!
This spoliler is absolutely worth the $$$!

I ordered the M3 lip for my e46 coupe on Apr. 27 and received it 4 days later. However, Jaspen shipped me the E46 4-dr version of the lip spoiler instead of the one for the 2-dr. I always thought that there was only one M3 lip spoiler until I saw the invoice and the label on the bag that the spoiler came in which said "E46-4Dr". Then I did a search and found this Lip spoiler for sedan (http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=54129&highlight=m3+lip+sedan) I think the sedan lip is a bit shorter than the one for the coupe.
Here are a few pics that I took of spoiler.

ahh, yes.. just got mine in.. So far it looks really good.. just gotta take it down to get painted. I was a little disapointed in the packaging, as it was very very flimsy, almost like two very thin pieces of cardboard. Even the mail-lady commented on it. But no damage on it, so it seems cool. Looks good, and thanks a lot for this GB!!

I don't know for sure, but the vendor might still honor this price. Email him to find out for sure though.

I think the price is still good. I ordered it on Sunday and got it yesterday which is extremely fast considering the fact that it came from Hong Kong. The packaging needs work but it doesn't really matter for something like this anyway.

I ordered 9 M3 lip spoilers to be shipped to Toronto Canada for a bunch of us Cannucks. It's been a week and 2 days and nothing. Now starting to get concerned. Hope this pans out ok. AND, hope he comes through with the right pieces. It will suck bag if he ships the wrong stuff.

My E39 spoiler took about 5 days to arrive to Chicago, so give it another day or two, and then send the distributor an email.
I noticed an indiscrete statement located on the bottom of the airway bill which states “Please use silicone to install.” Is this a recommendation to lay down a bead of clear silicone around the perimeter of the spoiler, so that small trunk-to-spoiler gaps are sealed from the elements??

Installation question: Do you have to bend it a little bit to fit around the trunk? The lip comes as one straight piece but the end of the trunk is not straight. :help

I had to slightly bend the lip to conform to my trunklid. Its only a slight bend/curvature. It'll fit nice though!

All I can say is email the vendor at jaspen@aero-dynamic.biz and ask to see if you can still get in on the group buy price. I know there has been quite a few people that received the GB price even after the GB ended. You would have to email him though. Some more info on the GB can be found on page 5 post #110. Good luck!

I ordered 9 lip spoilers (M3 coupe) and the spoilers did arrive......... 9 M5 spoilers which are all to big for our Audi A4 club members. I'm pissed as I up-fronted this deal for everyone (after collecting money as I'm not that stupid) but now I'm wasting a sh!t-load of time running after the guy trying to correct the problem. He wants me to send them all back on my own ticket.......... when it wasn't even my fault that they screwed up so badly. But at least I have product iin hand for the money spent. But still, it's not what we ordered and I have 8 other pissed people breathing down my neck.

If you have issues still and they don't look as of they will be resolved, go here and file a complaint. This is the company that I think you had to use when paying via credit card for the service.

Hey BlackBeauty,
I got one if you want to buy it from me. But I won't be able to sell it for another week or two. I need it for a project.

I'm having the same problem with him. He claims he will replace the E39 M5 spoiler which he shipped incorrectly for E46 M3 Coupe spoiler but he wants me to pay to ship it back!!
If anyone wants an E46 sedan/E39 M5 spoiler I'll sell you mine, I really don't want to deal with this guy anymore.

I'd buy it from you, but for how much? He's selling them for $48 shipped. Would you sell it for the same price shipped?

I'll also take an E39 M spoiler if anyone has an extra. FlyyGuy00@aol.com. Thanks.
For those of you still wanting one for the group price ($48 shipped), contact the seller. He's still honoring the price.

I doubt that, I tried and the seller confirmed that they dont sell them anymore.
Anyone, anyone???
I see...He was still honoring that price as of last week. Perhaps he is out of stock right now and can't sell them. My other advice is to look on ebay. You may be able to buy one there for a good price, and some are even sold painted.

I got one of each so if anyone want to buy it from me let me know. I only want what I paid for it.
These won't be available for another 2 weeks though because I'm using them right now for a project.

I'll take the M5 one buttuh. I think that's the best fit for a 4 door e36 right? What project do you need it for, is it going to be in new condition still? If so I'll take it. Send me a PM in 2 weeks.

Yeah the M5 is for E36 sedan also. I just need to make a mold out of it. So you'll get it the way it is new except without the 3M tape because I had to remove it to make the mold.

Alright that sounds cool buttuh. What can be used to hold it down besides the 3M tape that comes with it.

I know it's about 2 months after the fact, but I was browsing the net for M3/M5 replicas and found this topic.
If anyone has any left over M5 lip spoilers, please shoot me an email at sales@c-c-c.net and we'll work something out so we can take them off of your hands. We currently sell genuine M3/M5 Lip Spoilers, but are looking to carry replicas to offer an alternative to those who don't want to spring for the Genuine Product.
Thank you!! :)
