DIY Security Light ?

Is there a DIY to wire up a little red LED in the Rearview Mirror that would blink when the car is off? I looked around, but couldn't find anything. I don't have any kind of security system not even keyless entry, Basically I just want to wire up a red LED to deture any would be thieves. Thanks - Chad Wheeler

I have a red LED on my radio for its security code, and one infront of my shifter for the alarm, but not one in the rear view mirror. The radio blinks when the car is locked, but the alarm doesnt unless its set. Sorry im not much help, Ive never seen a light (besides a DIY mood light) coming from E36 mirrors...

I believe the light on the mirror is for the alarm system starting with the E46.

Do a search for a "clown nose' light. I have seen write ups on how to either retro fit to your current rear view mirror or get a E46 mirror with it already installed.
