Lifetime Warranty for Timing Chain??

Looked at a used E36 ('97 328i w/ 120,000 miles) a while back, and when I asked if the timing belt had been replaced or tensioner adjusted, he said the Timing Chains on all these models had a Lifetime Warranty from BMW.
Never heard that before, and don't find anything like that kind of claim in any of the threads... does anyone else know anything about this?

Never heard of that at all. Most timing chains don't wear out.. Though it has happened its not a common occurance.

Nope. I spoke with a dealer tech on his coffee break about timing chains, and the word is that they last the life of the vehicle -- what prompted my question was that I was an M50 newb at the time and didn't know whether it was a belt or a chain. Edit: in case that wasn't clear, no lifetime warranty, but the chain should last.
