View Full Version : help: drove w/o intake
so today, i was inspecting a whirling noise coming from my car. I checked under the hood, to see that my intake fell off of the HFM. (i guess i didnt;t secure the bracket tight enough) anyways, ive been driving like this for about 50 miles.
whats the possible damage? (worst first). I was wondering why my OBC said i had 250 miles left on a full tank.
thanks guys.

As long as you didn't drive through a dust storm you should be ok, just connect the filter or tube back on.

^ what he said. That or say a really bad heavy storm. That sort of thing. It might not be great, but shouldn't be horrible.

Just hope no nasty junk got in there. 50 miles is okay. Probably got some dust in there.
Worst: A swarm of bees got sucked in.
Best: A little more dust than usual got in there. Change your oil. You'll be fine.

What does oil have to do with the intake?

My guess is he is thinking if debris gets into the cylinders, it could somehow get past the piston rings and into the oil. Not sure how likely this is, but it's possible.
well, i forgot to mention it was raining during those 50 miles.. am i screwed now?

Its still running isnt it? Put the intake on, and drive.
i guess, weird part is that i never got a code. and i am assuming that this is the cause to why my obc estimated the gas mls so low.

Rain would make it better, because it would have kept the dust down.
It's nothing to worry about.

yeah, you're fine. if you're really paranoid, do a compression test. if you're unlucky, maybe some sand got in there and scored your cyl's. a flock of bees wouldn't do anything, they'd be incinerated when the spark plug fires, same with dust and other organic stuff like that. the only thing you have to worry aobut is sand really... and the rain didnt do anything if your car is still running. if water got sucked up, enough to cause damage, YOU'D KNOW.
