I have a 1993 325is and was wondering if a cylinder head off a M52 engine will fit and is there any advantage? Are the ports or valves any bigger on the M52? I know compression ratio is higher on the M50 (10.5 vs 10.2) but I'm not sure if combustion chambers or pistons increase compression.
Thanks for any info.

Theyre interchangeable.
+1 No differences worth mentioning. The M50 head has three sensor holes on the side of the block, beneath the intake manifold, for coolant sensors and the throttle body heater. The M52 head may have two, or three with one blocked by a bolt. Thats pretty much the difference.

Thanks,
I found out if the casting number ends in 400, the heads are pretty much the same, including the M3.
