View Full Version : Boring Sunday Afternoon + My New E36 M3 + Empty Parking Lot = FUN!

Well today was a typical boring Sunday afternoon, and I had nothing to do, then I looked outside and remembered that I own an E36 M3 :D

Well I thought to myself, WHY THE HECK NOT!

So I called my friend (E36M34Life) so we can try and take some pictures with his new camera, he came over and we went off to find a empty parking lot where we could spin some tires. :stickoutt

I know these pics are far from professional, but they didn't come out too bad. Yes, I know my car is dirty, its too cold to wash it.

ENJOY!

(these are me driving, and friend taking pics)

No vids unfortunately, it was my first time around drifting or trying to drift thats why i didn't video tape it.

a for effort
when the back end finally starts coming out dont fight the steering wheel...let it go. also if you stay wide upon throttle it is dam near impossible to catch the back end before you loop out and it looks very nubzish. get back out there and get a little video...regardless of how bad it is..we will help you get better.
+1 for vids! :redspot

Thanks, the car had the power i guess it wasn't too hard to spine tire but i couldn't get the back end to whip out the way the pros do it.

i'll get a video when it not so dark out.:)

(I was the other guy)

Yeah I know, both of us could definitely use some teaching when its comes to drifting, or even doing donuts on a dry asphalt, no doubt about that.

But I think for a first time we did ok.

Basically what I did was just give it some throttle with the wheels turned to the right, then I dropped the clutch and the rear end would whip out a little but then thats it. I definitely need some practice, I would like to learn how to do it properly.

But bad drifting aside, I think the pictures are pretty cool still. Some of them almost look like we are autocrossing around some invisible cones :D

I dont know if you read all of the posts where he admitted he is a first timer for drifting, but incase you did miss it, he did say that. Oh, and so did I. He didn't say he was a pro, oh and the shots aren't THAT bad, especially for a first time.

I was just saying...i mean, there's not even any rubber on the pavement, like aside from a questionable wisp of smoke in the 2nd to last pic, you'd never know you weren't just driving around in circles in 1st gear...

regardless, cool shots, just next time dont be afraid to just turn the wheel slightly, rev to 5k and dump it...youll eventually get the hang of it and be able to do more fun stuff, very nice M by the way.

It shouldn't be hard to drift or do donuts with our cold weather right now especially if you're still on summer tires.
I'm surprised there's no rubber on the ground also.

I was actually down in vancouver last night. I'll probably be heading down there again in a week or two.

I think I have seen you before, do you have hid's, and have you been on highway 26 going towards Portland/Vancouver? Also, I dont mean to be rasict, but are you of an Asian decent? If it was you, I was driving next to you for a while in my M3, we exchanged nods and a thumbs up ;)

Oh and "fishforlife" I think it would be really cool if you could do those vids, be specific about what rpm you drop the clutch and such, and also try to get some interior views. Im sure if I practice some more I can get the hang of it, but a place to reference to would be nice.

ah, u have much to learn young grasshopper. next time give it some more gas, looks like theres more than enough room for donuts.. i would suggest practice holding circle drifts.. helps u learn to control the car in case u slide UNintentionally

Well I have read ALOT of posts of people explaining how to do donuts/drifts, but videos are much nicer, I can learn better that way. I know I sound like a complete noob, but im not, I just thought since you said you were planning on doing so, it would be nice and I would definitely check it out and see if I can take some hints.

Yeah man, "ptldM3" is in Portland, and im right across the river in Vancouver, WA. There are like four people on this thread alone that live in/or by Portland, OR. We should definitely get some kind of meet going. I would say closer to spring though because I would want to check out the cars, and it is WAYYYYYY to cold right now.

Nice to know though :alright

Oh, about burning out and worrying something will break, thats a price you have to pay for fun. No one is forcing you to do it, its just something you have to live with. Unfortunately though, even if something doesn't break, im sure it weakens the drivetrain, not to mention probably loosens some things up, and sets it up for disaster. (broken subframes, broken diff. bolt, bent driveshaft/damaged u-bolts) :(
