:( My 1995 M3 was running fine Friday night. Then Saturday woke up to drive and she will not start. The reserve light was on but, I still had 40 miles of gas left. I went to the gas station and filled it up to half a tank and still no start. The battery, starter, fuel filter, ignition switch are all within six months old. It turns over, so I know it is not the battery. Its like it is not getting fuel. Any help will be appreciated.

Turn the ignition on without starting the engine and see if the fuel pump works (humming). If it's kinda "dead" kinda wake it up by smacking with an object like a rubber mallet or something then try starting it and see.

Where is the fuel pump or pumps?

Put some more gas in it. At least 2 gallons and maybe more.
My fear is that your tank has water contamination so you are sucking on fuel+water.

check hot lead for power into the fuel pump.
If there is power then the fuel pump might be bad, if there isn't then check the fuel pump power from the ignition into the EWS module. I had to do this with my starter. If there is power into the EWS but not out then you can jump the wires and effectively cut out the EWS for the fuel pump. I wasn't real concerned with doing this since it saved time and money.

1995 M3's have an EWS? Mine is a July build 95. If so, that makes sense because now, mine will not crank when turning the key. Is this right?

i believe all 01/1995 production and up have ews
3/95 and i have EWS... anyways, i had a similar problem... fuel pumpwas just bad. it was random, it worked fine for a while, then i left the car alone for 2 hours, then it never started.
i was given a tip from edge motorworks; try not to run the gas till the light(indicator) or 1/4 way... and that should prolong the lfie of the pump.

Yes... check this first! The fuel pump is located under the back seat bottom, passenger side. There is cover held with 4 philips screws. You should be able to hear it during first second or two when you turn the key (don't attempt to start the car, just listen for pump).

Okay, I have an EWS. Thanks. It has shut down into immobilization mode. I need to reprogram with the diagnostic tool from BMW. This happened because I switched the fuel pump relay with the horn relay to see if all the relays were working. They were all working. Thats good. I think I just need a fuel pump and to recode my DME and EWS and the car should start. Does this sound right?

Is it possible to reset the EWS without going to the dealer? I have heard you can unconnect the battery terminals and push a screwdriver through the hole and touch the negative and positive (without touching the battery). This resets all the computers. A BMW mechanic told me this might work. Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

Crank sensor? First check if the fuel pump is running.

The battery in the trunk. The screwdriver enables a connection between the positive and negative because they can not touch (not enough slack in cables). I am checking the fuel pump to see if it is getting power. However, would the EWS stop the fuel pump from getting power? My car does not crank when I try to start. Thanks.

What? You said in your first post that it turns over, now you're saying it does not crank? EWS disables the starter, fuel and spark, so the car will not turn over.
I can't see how shorting the battery cables will reset anything ... never heard of that, but what do I know :dunno
Btw, my 03/94 M3 had EWS. I had to cut the wire to start it after removing all my internal wiring and modules.

I do not know either. Just thought I would throw it out and see. Thanks.

So does your car crank or not? That would help narrow it down.

quite a pickle here. So you messed up your EWS by switching relays? Is that right?

Yep. Do not try it. Just replace them if they are bad. Any other way to reset the EWS without hitting the dealer?
