The Racing Network (TRN) just put out a call to motor racing fans. Well, fans of racing other than just NASCAR. Trying to gauge public interest, they have asked visitors to vote on their very existence. The question they ask is simple, if a bit wordy: "Would you be willing to: Switch from your current cable or satellite provider to the cable or satellite provider that carries the new non-NASCAR Racing Network, or add the additional cable or satellite provider in order to watch the new non-NASCAR Racing Network?"

What they are offering is "a 24/7 racing network" that's "devoted exclusively to the NON-NASCAR race fan." The programming would include "thousands of hours of live, historical and first run racing as well as many weekly race magazine-style shows including weekly coverage of major domestic series, [with] behind the scenes access..."

They're talking about coverage of Open Wheel, Drag racing, Rally, GT, Touring Car, Bike Racing (road and off road ), Karting, Vintage, Rallycross, Sports Cars, Endurance, Motocross, Supermoto, Off Road/Dirt, European Truck racing, UTE racing, Hill Climb, Porsche Cup, Desert, Speedway, Adventure, Historical, Various Club programs, (Porsche, Corvette, etc), and Various manufacturer series. Sounds super to us. If it sounds like something in which you'd be interested, visit their site by clicking the Read link below and vote. Please note, they request only one vote per household.

And who really needs to watch 9 hours of nascar coverage a day?

I said that almost word for word in the comments section of their web page.

Thanks for the heads-up Mike!

I clicked on a NASCAR show once and there were four sportscasters that sounded like they didn't finish high school and maybe had a 6-pack before they went on the air. I mean the pro football players who become sportscasters have a hell of a lot more intelligence. It was very sad, so I changed the channel rather quicky. :shifty

Front loading washing machine with a window? Definitely.

No window? Ehhh, toss up.

Weird. It says I've already voted. Maybe someone in my office did. I'll have to try again when I get home.

I had the Speed channel for a while but canceled because it was 99% Nascar. I would absolutely love to have a real motorsports channel.

As for watching Nascar vs a washing machine....it is a toss up. I'd still have to get hammered watching either one

This is the same guy that started Speed Vision before he sold it to fox and it turned into the NASCAR channel

This is gonna be awesome if it actually launches. I know tons of people who would love to see more real racing. As for NASCAR, the only reason I watch it is because there is rarely any other type of racing on and I need to get my fix. I'll quote Jeff Dunham and one of his puppets (sweet daddy d) "Why would I want to watch NASCAR? They're makin a left turn, they're makin a left turn, they're makin a left turn, I wonder what they are going to do next?"

Speed Channel knock off?

not exactly..........the same guy that started Speed is heading this project up, having said that......... in the past when he built up Speed and had an audience, he sold it off to Fox, who takes advantage of us innocent gearheads and tries to shove Nascrap down our throats every chance they get............so, who's to say he won't do it again?...i'd hate to be betrayed twice:(

don't get me wrong i'm all for the "all motorsports except nascrap" idea, i just don't trust the guy......:shifty

let me ask you guys "G-whiz" type questions..........
do you listen to sports talk radio at all?......
do you think people would listen to a motorsports talk radio type of station?............
do you think it'd have an audience if nascrap wasn't 50% of the programming?....

I was talking about this with some radio buddies from NYC and a few thought i'd be a good idea in the right market.......what do you think?

Yeah, the drama in F1 is soooo much more professional.:rolleyes

I'm all for racing...any type. Without acting like an azzhole knocking other people or the type of racing they like to watch.

Another channel with racing? Bring it on. Taking cheap shots at another form of racing to sell it...go **** yourself.

Anyone who says Speed is 99% NASCAR doesn't check their schedule. Here's the result of someone's thorough search:

This new network sounds great to me, but only if Verizon FIOS will carry it in addition to Speed. I couldn't give up my F1 fix.

So how many times is this going to need to be voted on before it actually comes into existence?? Personally, I don't think it exists, if it did, we wouldn't be voting so many times on it :shifty

Yeah, this would be great. Is it me or has speed gotten a little better about showing non-nascar racing? I remember when they first switched over it was literally nothing but nascar. Now sometimes I'm lucky enough to catch petite le mans or f1.

It's all about Dario. The new channel is bound to fail when HE makes the switch to NASCAR. I think F1 is moving to E! network just after the Paris and Lindsey show. But I'm all in for Vintage Motocross. Go Team Guzzi! BTW - What is "European Truck racing" and UTE racing?

I do enjoy watching the Speed Channel when it showing something other than the Nascar soap oprah.

Here's an idea, how about dedicating an entire channel to just Nascar, they can call it the Bubba Nascar channel, and let Speed channel showcase other forms of racing that people enjoy to watch...like swamp buggy racing or whatever. Anything but Nascar. I'm personally burned out on Pink's and all of the monster trucks coverage too. Seems like both shows are on daily now that it's winter. They, the Speed channel, could be like ESPN classic, and during the winter months and feature some great old races, but enough of the Nascar stuff for sure. A little more motocross and a lot less Nascar.

Just my thoughts.

Any form of racing that mandates 1950's technology is pointless as it doesn't promote progress in any form be it safety, fuel economy, etc. Yeah, the perpetual circles thing is real brilliant too...

I wonder what this thread would look like in the Ford Taurus and Chevy Impala forums? Do they have those?

I voted, and will tell everyone to vote, but I doubt it is mainstream enough to make it, that is why Speed switched in the first place unfortunately. I am still bummed that Two Wheel Tuesday has vaporized.

Speed is alright in the summer months on sat. and sundays. Nascar... nah, i cant get with it. They have to beat each other up and act like baphoons to keep it interesting, or have a big pile up during the race. But i would like a channel that covered more foreign racing like the japanese races that feature full race nsx's and supras or the 24 hours of the ring. Cant wait for ALMS season to start.
