yesterday I was driving in vacuum part throttle about 5000rpms and it misfire really bad. Like the ignition just cut out. then the car stalled and died. I can crank the engine but not turn over. waited awhile. started up. irratic idle. jumping up and down. I would hold high rpms then it would cut out again and die. Afrs were 14.7 and still motor wouldn't turn over. Left car for couple hours, came back and started her right up. afrs perfect and idle stable. I was able to get her home. no check engine light never came on. what's the deal?

any ideas? thanks.

Do you have a scope? Check your crank sensor, I had one die and that was pretty much what happened.

no i don't have a scope but i can measure the resistance. anyone know the value? or is there another way of finding out it is definitely the sensor

Is it typical for the crank sensor to go on bmws?

how does the crank sensor do?

thanks.

I'll check my CKP's resistance tonight when I'm over there. Its pretty common for them to go out every 100-150k. What do you mean "how does the crank sensor do?" ??
