The design and engineering of our "high flow" E46 M3 Titanium Exhaust has been completed (based off our prototype stainless version) and we will have our first "Full Titanium" exhaust system here in about a month. We designed this exhaust using the largest radius turns possible along with the shortest distance with "no" built-in muffler to create the highest flowing exhaust possible that can bolt to the 2 pipe factory midpipe.
It will work for all E46 M3's, but will sound much better on a turbo'd M3 as the turbo acts as a muffler and changes the exhaust note from a "tin"-y sound to a deeper roar-ing sound. We tested the sound of this exhaust with our prototype "stainless steel" version and it has an amazing deep, agressive sound.
Not only will it flow extremely well, but this exhaust system is being made entirely out of titanium. Everything is titanium including the clamps. It is incredibly strong and will weigh in at less than 5 lbs! Just bolting this exhaust on will take 47lbs off the curb weight of your M3.
We spent a considerable amount of time designing the tail section since that's what people will typically see. Our tail section has been designed in a unique high flow form that takes full advantage of the design of the rear bumper. We designed the tips to flow with the shape of the E46 M3 in all three dimensions, and to look great on the vehicle.
Our Titanium exhaust system is $1475. If you want to lock in an order from our first batch, email david@horsepowerfreaks.com, and he'll get you set up, or you can check it out on our site at http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/sale/HorsepowerFreaks/Exhaust/Exhaust_Systems/part/E46_M3_Titanium
Here are some pics of the rear section.

Doesn't titanium glow hot red when it gets hot? If so that would be super badass!

That's nuts. Tips look like the ones on my Touareg.

I call B.S. on the 5 lbs. There are titanium bicycle frames that weigh 3.5 lbs and theres a hell of a lot more metal in an exhaust than a bicycle.

Hate to say it, but all M cars made after 2000 deserve quad tips! :buttrock

How do they look on the car?

Ok,
Thanks for all the feedback, I really appreciate it.
Our goal was to come up with a different design that was unique, however based on your feedback we're going to change the tip design to match the standard four tip design. This will not impact our current schedule and we should have our first exhaust system here within a month.
Next question.... Most exhaust systems with titanium tips have the purple colored ends. I'd like to stick with a standard polished look for the tips. What is your impression of those rainbow looking tips. Do you like them or do you prefer the polished tip look?
Thanks again,
Chris.

I only think there is one exhaust that looks good in ovals.....IMHO the ac shnitzer i believe?........its two round ovals...look like sex! but HPF is uglyyy lol
You might want to poll people who have actually purchased your kits rather than....

You could have both designs, but make one more "Rare" then up the price for that one :D haha jk jk! but have both and have on be a "special addition" therefore customers who like the colored tips can get them.....although i find that to be alot more 350z or g35ish

This is well priced, better than a 18.5k turbo kit. And a great deal... Yea thoes are nasty looking tips.. Quad tips FTW. Also polished looks the best.. let it cure and color change on it's own :)

Wow that thing is light. Good job HPF! As for my opinion, I like polished than those blue flamed one's.

well, 5-3.5 = 2.5
2.5/3.5 = 71%
So if an exhaust system has 71% more titanium than a titanium frame bicycle, then 5 lbs is believable. Is all titanium piping of equal thickness? I'd imagine a bike would have have thicker titanium to deal with the abuse seen from our weight

not a fan of the rainbowing of titanium but in all honesty its not the worst thing in the world its what they do. its kind of the staple of the true titanium exhausts.. i mean you can find companies trying to copy the look on exhausts for the jap cars now a days..

How you said it. "fuuugggly lololol"
That's like calling someone's finished car, fresh outta the body shop ugly to their face.
You don't have to say it's nice, but how you say it has to be better.

nice math work ;)
**** I'm a douche
revised math 1.5/3.5 = 43%
So if an exhaust uses 43% more metal than a bicycle frame, it's believable.
Lol at my triredness

Something along the lines of the Porsche turbo quad exhausts, with each pair of the quads somewhat merged together? I'd replace the boomy Borla quads on our E46 for something really different. Don't want to think about what a bitch it would be to weld titanium prototypes like that...

Will the rainbow look be the same price as polished/non-polished?
If it's all the same, I think the rainbow would look cool, but it might not be.
Do some photoshops.

Awesome product development from HPF. I loved the single pipe oval tips. For me it would have to be raw ti any time, the rainbow effect is just how ti reacts to use.

Not a fan of the Rainbow stuff - reminds of ARC shit for dsm/evo - ogod quality but i dunno wrong market. too fan boy. I think quad tips or honestly, 2 3.5"-4.0" singles or so would look raw and badass.

I think the dual ovals look cleaner than the quad tips, all you guys who are saying the dual oval tips are fugly must be crazy. The Borla cat back with the oval tips for the e46 M3 looks sick! Also, it's always an added plus to do something a bit more unique looking than stock...

With a change in tip design, I would definitely buy this unless it is somehow quieter than stock (which I highly doubt.) Very nice work as usual HPF!

I love the Titanium color, but I found them ugly but on the car they looked quite good after a second look.

What are you talking about Jon? Titanium exhausts get the "rainbow" effect with use. There's nothing "fan boy" or "wrong market" about titanium exhaust components. You're confusing function with form.

So all these titanium japense exhausts are used?
Titanium blues with heat. It doesn't blue with heat right at the tips. Thats from a torch. The tips are pretty much the coldest part of the exhaust with maybe the except of the end of the rear most hanger..

It probably won't do it at the tip on most cars since you've got to get Ti at least red/orange hot for it to really change colors(over 1100 deg F). You won't see temps like that at your tailpipe unless you've got a mid engined car with high EGTs or your bumper is on fire. :D
Also, I don't think most people on here realize that Ti doesn't have the luster of something like stainless steel once polished. I actually like the look of Ti more than steel, much more unique, but it doesn't "bling" much when polished.

It will only ever look a sort of amber tint "brushed" metal look, sorta. It doesn't shine in fact even perfectly clean polished titanium will look, basically, like it's dirty.
Yea, it's a very matte finish. Almost like a steel with a higher Ra.
6Al-4V has a very "futuristic grey" look to it for lack of a better term. I've got a 2' long 1.000 x 0.080" piece of AMS4945(3Al-2.5V) with a solid billeted bulkhead piece welded on it at work to use as a beating stick - likely the most expensive beating stick ever conceived.

hi chris,
have you any dyno result of your exhaust? what is the power gain?
have you also design the full exhaust made by titanium?

I call B.S. on the 5 lbs. There are titanium bicycle frames that weigh 3.5 lbs and theres a hell of a lot more metal in an exhaust than a bicycle.
A bicycle frame is thicker in comparison and it is also structural, this is an exhaust so the thickness can be very very thin, like 1 mm or less. So 5 pounds can be correct.
