The benevolent Mr. Project (Armen Badeer... aka "hippie"--see curly dark hair w/ a VW references elsewhere) is volunteering his driveway and tools to all those interested and able.

Projects for the day will include:

E36 Side-skirt cleaning (remove gray, make black shine!)
E28 Oil Pan removal and clean-up (also oil-change)
E28/anything with bad paint: POLISHING (if time and weather allow)
E28 Tire-roasting 101 with Jeremy's previously MIA 25hp.
E36 hood/wiper alignment (if adam is there)
E34 drool session is jeff has the time
E39 deep-dish cross-spoke wheel cleaning.... aka "my own personal hell"

we will also be attempting to drop a new engine into Armen's latest project, Adam's old Ford Escort..... btw, what a pile of engineering restraint.... oi vey!

whoever plans on attending bring a few tools and we'll find a way to feed us all lunch I am sure.

the fun starts at about 9:30am, 5440 High Street, (06)... additional parking is available at 5206 High Street.

my wife is threatening to make cookies and/or cheesecake.

Woo hoo, this is gonna be fun! I must contest the hippie moniker, though, I'm back to my 'summer' haircut now. :)

my car is in need of some body work/help. it has a few trouble areas i tryed to fix myself.... hehe. maybe somone can give me some advice to fix it?

Dang.... that's a long list you got there Jer.... Hmmm I'm soooo tempted to come.

Mr Project

Jim - yes, bring jack stands!! I'm running short with both cars in the garage not being able to hold themselves up at the moment. :) Otherwise use your judgement, I've got a good selection of metric stuff, but if we have 3 people working simultaniously, it coudn't hurt to have some dupes. Maybe a 3/8s ratchet and some metric sockets?

Cosworth... I wish!! I was briefly temped by the Mazda KL-03 2.5l V6 that swaps in... 164 HP/TQ in a '95 Escort.... NO!! Put in stock engine and sell!! Stock is 1.9l.... eeew.

Dark Helmet

I'll haul down a complete set of deep and shallow metrics, my box-end/combo collection is crap though. I'm REALLY thin on extensions and specialty-tools and my screwdriver collection is embarrasing (I'll bring my wife's... they are quite nice!)

I SHOULD have an extra impact and a pneumatic rachet from my brother, and if the weather is nice, we can ever bring a second compressor for the drive-way folk.

"dear god, please send this s%(@t to San Dieago and let the sun shine in Nebraska..."

unforturnately, the mustangs are currently possessing all the jackstands...

Dark Helmet
04-04-2003, 11:51 AM
oh crap armen... do you have any idea what kind on purgatory that V6 swap would be????? you'd have been hard pressed to get me in a room filled with that much bad engineering karma....

Mr Project
04-04-2003, 12:03 PM
The V6 is actually only slightly removed as a platform, so it's just one step above a bolt-in swap.... but yeah, I'm aware of the problems of packing that much questionable engineering into one tiny little engine compartment. Hence the 1.9l. :)

(but someday, if I need a daily driver and I come across another <$100 escort.... :devillook: )

Heck, my buddy in Louisville is swapping a 400 SBC into his RX-7.... now that's some evil karma. So wrong on so many levels....

Dark Helmet
04-04-2003, 12:27 PM
nah... rear-drive makes it all better... but I'd have used an SBF... soooo much lighter and soooo much easier to fix.

re: the escrap.. think about the wiring harnes armen... and all those vaccuum hoses... so vile!!!

Dark Helmet
04-04-2003, 12:30 PM
I keep telling you that you need to buy Llaird's E28... that way I can at least see what my car is SUPPOSED to look like when I'm fixing stuff...

oh, and I have a new steering box en route, only $180!!!!!!

so we'll test-run the PS-pump bypass on the dead box and see if it works...

and yes, it is a V-belt, so the delete is EASY!!!!!

I'll be there alright! I'm bringing a camera, I want a pic with me where the engine used to be on my old Escort!!! And a hood alignment! I could cry! It's truly a red letter day, although the weather speaks differently.........

Mr Project
04-04-2003, 01:43 PM
Adam - well, there's plenty of room. :) I'll let you crawl in with some degreaser and a hose so you can clean it up a bit while you're in there. :)

Jer - STOP!! I saw he reduced to $3300 this week in the paper....must resist, must resist, must resist.
RE: wiring - you forget, I'm EE so I'm not easily dissuaded by complex diagrams. :D Though I do love simplicity, and the fact that I could re-wire the whole Corvair in a weekend is appealing. :D

Dark Helmet
04-04-2003, 02:31 PM
Armen... he accepted a $2000 offer that fell through!!!!! I'm almost ready to buy it!!!!

Dark Helmet
04-04-2003, 02:32 PM
Armen, I could rewire a corvair in a weekend... you should clean it off in 3-hours EASY....

you KNOW you want a bavarian!!!!!

Mr Project
04-04-2003, 03:37 PM
$2k?!!! AHHHHH STOP IT!! You're hurting me! Please tell me it's some ugly color like gold so I can sleep at night.

He isn't looking for a classic RX-7, is he ? :devillook

if you happen to get a cone filter and that adapter, i can make you a heat sheild too! :redspot

snow sucks.

Dark Helmet

snow=evil...

Jim, you were right... even by jsut removing the PS belt and leaving the rest of the system intact, it effectively "shorted" the PB circuit and it was a bit dangerous to drive...

Armen and I spent about 30-45 mintues in my garage on sunday fixing it, and then we created a lot of angst by trying to mate the escrap engine and tranny.... totally useless endeavor.

the resulting trip to sears was fun though... got a few new toys that would have saved me about an hour on saturday with the oil pan...

next week we work on Adam's skirts and my cooling system.

Mr Project
04-07-2003, 12:02 PM
Jer - What do we need to do on your cooling system?

Also, I posted your 'kill' from last week, apparently no one else thinks it's funny... not an unusual situation for me. :)

Jeremy-
It was fun driving a car with no power steering, reminds me of taking a '42 Ford Truck with no ps and a jerry-rigged gas tank (a red gas can with a hose) for a spin one time.....almost bought it for $200......

Also, stopped by K-Mart yesterday to see what was left, got the last wrench set, but they had a bunch of miscellaneous shop lights if anyone needed one or two.....

Armen and I both spent part of sunday at Sears... cheap tools are the bomb!

I need to go home and organize all my new goodies!

after i left your house i got a little suprise.. the night before i had put almost a full tank in the car. i was driving home and i looked down and the gas gauge was reading just above a 1/4 tank... only 78 miles on the trip counter... so i thought "gezus this thing gets crappy milage now..." so i kept driving.. look down... below 1/4 now... hollllycrap!! do i have a fuel leak?? ... hmmm i dont smell any fuel.. i had just changed the fuel filter like 4 days earlier.. better pullover... i pulled over.. no fuel driping.. exaust smells like fuel.. but thats normal. hmmmmmmmm o well. keep driving. almost home.. look down at the gauge and its reading past e.
:dunno
i decide its on crack... i hit a pothole, and i can see the gauge snap to 3/4 tank... then back to way below e again.. yeah, its on crack.

i got home and pulled the fuel pump cover under the back seat. cleaned the conection, and it was fixed.. :buttrock

just thought id share.

Mr Project
04-07-2003, 04:03 PM
Sweet. I love the easy (very rare) fixes. :buttrock

Jim, I still have your jack stands, BTW. Looks like we're getting together again next Sat, but if you need them before that, let me know.

BimmerJim®
04-07-2003, 04:57 PM
i think i might need them on saturday... i have a suspention to put on a integra gsr sometime saturday or sunday... im not shure what time yet....

anyone of you guys do body work? my rear passenger fender is in need of a big bandade....

Dark Helmet
04-07-2003, 05:08 PM
none of us do body-work as well as you want it done... Auto Kraft is always my reccomendation regardless of CS.

Mojo325is
04-07-2003, 05:15 PM
I think Armen could weld it......:D

Dark Helmet
04-07-2003, 05:23 PM
eh... have you seen Armen's welding.......... :D

Mojo325is
04-07-2003, 05:29 PM
here's my suggestion on the escrap.....
shove the engine under the hood, rig it so it doesn't blow up and then weld the hood shut so no one can ever get to it......:mdrbig

Dark Helmet
04-07-2003, 05:52 PM
that's part of the problem... with out the engine and tranny in one piece, we can't get them into the engine compartment.

Mr Project
04-07-2003, 07:53 PM
Jim - I have a decent selection of air sanders, grinders, sandpaper, filler, etc. for body work. I also have very limited ability. If you want it to look good, no. Take it to AutoCraft. If you want it to look slightly better, maybe. Super time-consuming, though.

Yo, it takes time to make a master welder. :) I didn't become a Corvair carb guru overnight, you know. :D
