I disconnected the Lt exhaust valve from the vacuum hose. I drove it around town for a while and it sounded excellent. Then I had to take a highway trip and set cruise control at 70 mph + and this annoying up and down resonance droning started. Now I know the purpose of the valve. Connected it back up. I have been thinking about adding a switch in the trunk area like city/highway switch. Any thoughts??? Any one else experience this droning after the mod??

My music is to loud to hear the sound at highway speeds, though there is very little sound coming for the exhaust try getting in a civic and thats bad.

Droning sucks, if it drones...change it back. I like loud exhaust under acceleration, but they MUST be quiet at cruising.

Completely agree. Does anyone know if he butterfly is either open all the way/closed all the way, or does it relative to the vacuum? It would be nice to have it open enough for sound, but closed enough for the highway. My passengers felt and heard it more so than me in the driver's seat, so that wasn't very cool.

That is why I was thinking about wiring a switch that would activate or deactivate it for like City/Highway mode. I have not looked at the wiring to see what is involved or where to hide the switch. Input welcome.

Its only much louder than stock when starting it cold. As soon as the fast idle comes down (less than 2 minutes) its basically only very slightely louder than stock. The only time it will sound only a bit louder is when your winding it out.You should hear absolutely no drone at all even under cruising conditions. The butterfly valve stays open all the time after the mod.Thers no power gain or driveability issues,no cel,s and it cant do any kind of damage to anything.Like i said only upon cold start is it louder than stock and gives a sweeter sound when winding it up. best way to do it is to put a ball bearing or BB (BB gun) in the line once you pull the line off the actuater.Put the bb or even a piece of the golf tee in the line far enough to put it back on the actuater nipple, and let the nipple push it in the rest of the way. The whole thing should take a minuye to do. If you dont like it just take a pair of needle nose pliers and work the bb or piece of thetee out of the line and re-connect the line back on.

It's louder right around 2k rpm, about 75-80mph, it does get quieter as you aproach 90-100mph, but that isn't a daily happening where I live. The E90 is designed different for passenger comfort, so maybe that's why I have this droning, either way, when passengers complain, it's time to put the mod back.

Went back to stock myself.

I did the mod the other day, still have it installed, I put a kink in the line and zip tied it so it wouldn't come undone...I notice a slight louder exhaust when cold as stated and next to nothing at any other time. I will more than likely switch it back as I see no gain or benefit.

The only thing you will get out of the mod is a louder exhaust when started up cold. As soon as the car is down to normal idle (600 rpm) it wont be any louder than stock.

It should be louder under acceleration earlier, since if you drive with the windows down you can hear a tonal change when it opens.

Definitely louder on acceleration, it's the drone on the highway that ruins my music ;-)
