That depends, I had to add 2 qt @ 3500 miles to bring it to MAX level and its still at Max @5000 and I never had a warning light illuminate.. Did you check the oil level per the Owners Manual or just dump the 1/2 qt in there to get rid of the light ?????

If you oil level shows max on the indicator you should be OK. Not sure why the light came on since you were only a 1/2 qt low. From previous threads a 1/2 qt is not bad for the first 4000 miles. Hopefully some one can clarify the light for you. Good Luck.

the oil level is steady between min and max... does it have to be up to the max line? or just in between?

I have 2500 miles on my 07 335i coupe and the oil level is still on full, same as the day i picked it up. I guess it all depends on how you break the car in. I gave mine a hard break in. I went buy the book for 500 miles and then started to drive the car harder but by no means did i abuse it. After 500 miles i started shifting at 6500 rpm,s until 1200 miles and then let it rip to redline.Thats the way i have broken in all my new cars and they never burned any oil.Not even my turbo cars.

This is the same problem I was talking about on another thread. BUT people saying its not true. I have read in many places where people had to add a quart about every month or so. It must be true. Not good. WTF BMW ???

I have to admit I don't like the the computer monitoring of oil level. Temp has to be this high, level ground, red light long enough to scroll through the computer crap without someone honking at you, really is a pain in the butt. So far no oil consumption though.

This is not an issue, losing a 1/2 quart or 1 quart on a new car is not out of spec. If the loss is on a regular basis then there may be reason for concern. All BMWs models I've experienced since the 70s burn some oil to a certain degree, some more than others and some none at all, and that was always considered to be normal and acceptable. Just top it off with OEM oil.
