:help
I've seen it somewhere on the boards but I never bothered to mark it or print it out. I've bought new taillights and I have no clue how to take out the old ones and install the new ones!

Anyone remember the link to that website that guy made with step by step instructions (with pictures) how to do this? :dunno

Thanks!

Kathy,

If you are replacing the tails on your E38, that's very easy, no web-site needed. The more difficult one to do is the driver's side because you don't have very much clearance behind the audio equipment, but your hands are much smaller than mine so that might not be a problem for you.

Start with the easy passenger side behind the battery compartment, just to get a feel for what you are doing. Each tail light is held on with four small nuts, not hard at all to remove with pliers or small wrench, but I forgot the size, sorry. After you remove these, simply unplug the electrical connection by pinching in the sides of the connector as you pull it toward you. Pull out the old light from the outside rear of the car, you may need to push it out carefully a little from inside the trunk. Replace with the new one, bolt it on, plug in the connector and then do the driver's side.

I assume you are upgrading to crystal clear rears... good luck.

IF the nuts are the same size on the E38 as they are on the E36, then they are 7/16. The procedure is the exact same, it sounds like. CD changers have a way of getting in the way, so you'll have to remove it from it's mount first... if you have one.
