i just caint make up my mind on witch tire i want to buy. it gets really bad where i live. but i really want the LM 22 just because i can go faster and its more stable at high speeds. i know the ws 50 is a really good tire. CAN THE LM 22 KINDA KEEP UP WITH THE WS 50 IN REALLY DEEP ICY CONDISHIONS OR IS IT A HUGE DIFFERENCE NEED TO KNOW

The WS-50 is old and not even a very good tire anymore. Still good, especially when compared to an all-season, just not the hot-shot it was when it came out in 1999. Get the WS-60. Higher speed rating, better on ice and better on snow than the WS-50

Yes, the WS-60 is the way to go. The LM-22 will still feel more like an all-season and the WS-60 will have a softer sidewall, but it will grip a lot better in the bad stuff.

As long as you keep off the tires when it's warm (>45F), and you take corners gently, (and don't peel out) they'll last. I took care of my old WS-50s and after 3.5 full MN seasons, they still had a bit over half the tread remaining. Approx. 18,000 miles on the tires.
I had my first ice experience last night with the WS-60s. It was snowing all evening (lightly) but melting on contact with the pavement. By about 12 midnight it had got cold enough for the wet pavement to ice over. It was total glaze ice in many spots. I was impressed with the traction overall. Some spots of mostly snow made for some EXCELLENT traction. The spots of pure ice of course produced wheelspin, but it certainly was driveable. I haven't driven on my old WS-50s since last spring, so it's hard to make a direct comparison. The dry pavement behavior is noticeably better than the WS-50. Given more snow time, I'm sure I'll discover more things the WS-50 couldn't do.
Nothing short of a high-end studded tire will make these conditions (glaze ice) fun, but I never felt like I was close to being stuck, or out of control. No LSD or TC on my ti.

The LM-22 is a bit harder than the WS-60, its designed for sports cars like the M3 that don't typically see a full snow season; therefore they can handle dry pavement better but sacrifice ice/snow grip. The WS-60 is a pure snow/ice tire which outperforms most snow tires (including studded) on snow and ice surfaces. The WS-60 was improved for dry driving but you can still expect them to wear fast like every other snow tire when driven on dry pavement. I'd go with the WS-60.
Aslo, if you ever get a chance, check out http://www.winterdrive.com/ in Steamboat, I've always wanted to try it out.
