Hi guys, my mom is looking to get a Mini Cooper... but my dad thinks they are too unreliable. I work at a German Parts Shop; and I can get parts for very cheap. I have no idea how well they hold up, but my guess is fairly well because there are a billion on the road!
What can you guys tell me so I can advise my mother? :)

Well, the new coopers are fairly new (02+?).
I bought a used 05 model around the end of April this yr and so far i've had a couple of issues; motor mounts leaking & mushrooming struts.
They're pretty minor but if you are planning to get a used one, get an 05+.
It definitely helps that you can get parts cheaply.
If you purchase new, it's under warranty or just lease the car.

Working at a dealership, I have been impressed with the over-all reliability of most of our cusomers' cars. There are always exceptions to be found with the general rule, but many have over 100K miles now and going strong!

My wife has a 06 and it was in the shop once for a speaker bezel that needed to be tweaked. I'd consider build quality excellent.

I have an '03, and the few problems I had with it were all replaced under warranty: bad power steering fan, leaky AC fitting (I think both of those were common problems for that year), and a broken rear hatch strut.
I would say they're fairly reliable. Not like a Honda or Nissan, but still reliable.

I do not have a cooper s, but my cousin does.
As far as I know the cars are ok, when we're talking about reliabilty!
Like shivan said, not like a honda or an import, but they're reliable enough!

I wanted to buy one but I'll see how the new models turn out. Sounds like horrible service from dealers too http://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/mini.html
