I am looking at a used 335i (auto, sport package) and when I drove it, it had a significant part throttle surge which made it a bear to drive in traffic. Start off from a light with part throttle and at about 20mph it suddenly zooms ahead and you have to jump off the gas to avoid hitting the car in front. Almost like the turbo jumped to full bore.
Is this typical of the 335i or is there a problem here? Any input appreciated. Sooner the better so I can decide whether to make an offer on the car.

There was a TSB with a reflash for the tranny out there that was supposed to help with this. I think it might be part driver not letting the system catch up a little. Try driving it in DS, or Fake-manual.
I'd say it's more of a characteristic of the AT tranny as my MT has no such issue.

Mine is perfect... so maybe it's just something you'll have to learn or get used to. Manual vs. Auto might act differently also.

I have the same problem and I have AT, seems more pronounced in normal AT. As BG said, not as noticable in DS. Also have the brake pressure issue. My guess is I could take back to dealer, complain like hell, and nothing would get fixed and I would waste alot of time and really be pissed, so I live with it for time being. What I am saying is, so far the positive aspects of this car have greatly exceeded the negative!

I love the acceleration in mine! it's pure! And the growl of the engine is sweet music to my ear!
