. . . Do you know is the suspension is tuned by BMW for RFT's? If so, have you noticed any compromises?
Just a noob asking questions. I'm going for a test drive this Saturday.

That's what I've read in these forums (this and E90 Post)... that the suspension is specifically tuned for these size tires on run-flats with the stiffer side walls. If I were to go with non-RFT's, I would at least stick with the same size (225/40 + 255/35). A while ago I was thinking about going with 225/45 + 245/40, but that's probably going to make the suspension feel way too soft or something. I've heard that just changing to non-RFT's in the same size does make it a little softer and quieter, but that's all I know. I wouldn't want it too much more softer than it already is.

I don't think the average person will feel anything in a negative. The RFTs are very similar to going to a larger rim, so going to non-RFT will just make it feel like you have 18s instead of 20s or 19s.
If you're getting a new car, just enjoy the car with stock tires and when it comes to replace them...feel free to consider non-RFT.
