Stan is the man when it comes to good info on these models. He ran an M Register for years in the Roundel and can be contacted at the above address. He still has copies of the 49 newsletters he sent to members of this registry and will send them to you pp for $1 each. If you have an M6 this is information that you absolutely should have; it would be the best $49 you ever spent.
(I bought mine in Escondido, CA, and enjoyed a spirited trip back to Chicago! Whoa!)
I sold my M6 about twelve years ago and Stans advice helped considerably when I was wondering what was going on under all that expensive metal up front.
Why did I sell it? Well, (1) it was black and impossible to keep clean (2) I used to worry about something serious happening to the engine (3) it was difficult to drive slowly, it really was (5) my daughter pointed out that her Cadillac had one touch windows and I had to hold my fancy BMW's switch down! ;-)
Ah, but it was fun to go looking for Porsches though.

Yea - I've met him a couple of times. Very nice guy!

I have a bunch of copies of the ///M Register that came with my car. Very interesting reading...
