actually i notice all the 328i SULEV has the VIN starting with WBAVC where the regular 328i has VIN staring with WBAVA. Mind you I am only looking at the 4 door sedan...

I guess I should make sure the 328i I get has the VIN of WBAVA* :)

could it be the WBAVA* are from Germany and WBAVC are from South Africa?

No, 11th character- Identifies the assembly plant for the vehicle. Check this out http://www.analogx.com/CONTENTS/vinview.htm
11th digit - assembly plant
A- Munich, Germany
B-Dingolfing, Germany
C-Dingolfing, Germany
D-Dingolfing, Germany
E-Regensburg, Germany
F-Munich, Germany
G-Munich, Germany
J-Regensburg, Germany
K-Munich, Germany
L-Spartanburg, South Carolina
Couldn't find the code for the SA plant, but I guess it is safe to assume it is M or a successive letter. Mine is built in Munich (K) :D.

very interesting... I see the none SULEV have assembly plant of K (mostly) and P where the SULEV ones are from plant F. Is there a decoder for the plant info somewhere?
