Scanner Suggestions?

I am looking for some scanner suggestions that will work on more than just my current car.

I've been considering the ElmScan 5 USB (http://www.scantool.net/products/product_info.php?cPath=8_6&products_id=32&osCsid=d8497c27f4248d0d420748aa3f42b214) Is this good? Anything better around this price range?

I have an elmscan and I've used it for VPW, KWP2000, and CAN protocols.

On your 740 you can read a lot of live data from the engine. I use pcmscan with mine but there are a lot of software packages that work with the interface.

Only thing though is that you are limited to only a few modules that you can communicate with. Your engine computer, and possibly your transmission computer... I don't have or work on any automatic cars so I'm not really sure about that.
