Hey Guys,
Just a little update on my 630csi. Been working evenings on it(on and off), for the past couple weeks. Driveline is all in, brakes are all on and bled, fluids are all in, etc.
So, 3 nights ago, I got the last bit of wiring hooked up, and turned the key. Nothing happened. Ooops, forgot to bypass the neutral safety switch(car used to be an auto, now a 5 speed). Fix that, and try again. Now it cranks. GREAT! But still no start.
Check for spark, no spark. Ooops, forgot to install the balast resistor for the coil. Plug that in, no start. DAMN! What now?
Check the injectors for power. No power. Check the combo relay for power at pin 86c. No power to 86c. Damn, that's a straight shot wire from ignition to combo relay, what the hell is going on? Do some more testing, figure out the rest of the wiring is fine, and pack it in for the night.
Tomorrow, I'm going to go at it with fresh eyes, and see what I can find. Sooooo close, I can taste it. I just wanna drive the damn car, dammit dammit dammit!
I bought this car 3 years ago, with no engine, no trans, and most of the dash removed. ALL of the interior wiring was in a pile on the floor, nothing connected, and most of the interior in pieces. Talk about a "project in a box". Ugghhh.

Oh yeah, I'm also redoing all the upholstery in the car at the same time. Should have some pics of the completed interior next week. Car has a tan leather interior originally, but some eveil person recovered ONLY the seating surfaces in some nasty, nasty black vinyl! I had planned to recover with new tan hides, but the budget isn't there right now. Instead, replaced all the black vinyl with tan tweed.

I live about twenty miles SE of Yakima, outside of a small town, Zillah. I'm in the heart of Washington apple (and now wine) country.

I drove my 630 tonight, for the first time ever!
Sorted out the last 2 wiring issues with it, twisted the key, and she fired up. I am so excited about it, I doubt I'll sleep tonight. lol. I spend my days fixing other people's cars, and seldom have time to complete my own projects. Nice to finally correct that situation.
No gauges in it, no exhaust on it(just downpipes), no seat(milk crate), and no shiftknob. Plus, brakes and clutch need to be bled again, but dammit, I drove it! Albeit slowly, and just around the parking lot. But still, PROGRESS....a milestone.

Congrats. Al. You drove it! Know what that means, even if it is only in the parking lot. You still drove it!

Hey Bill,
Yeah, I'm super stoked, despite the tiny little drive. Tomorrow is a holiday Monday up here, but I'm going to the shop(I've bribed my apprentice to come in, too). We're going to try and complete the dash swap, wiring, and most of the interior tomorrow. That will leave lights, and exhaust to complete later this week.

awesome! Always good to get some driving in after a big job like that. it makes you really want to finish it so you can start putting some miles on it! cant wait to see when its road worthy.

M30 with no exhaust is a sound we hear fairly regularly in my shop. Its LOUD, but sounds rather sweet at the same time. I rattled some parts off of the shelf in my mezzanine when she fired up last night.

M20 with a big lumpy cam and open headers sounds pretty nice, too! That one I actually took for a little drive. lol

Those seats are soooo neat! I know you did the tweed because of budget, but i really feel that the seats fit the car color scheme really well!
Great to see progress on it im sure! At least now you can drive it with a real seat in it, even if its just around the parking lot!

The tweed was a budget decision, for sure. But I also knew it would look great, and suit the car well. It has a very 70's, very European feel to it, which is exactly what I'm going for with this car. The tweed is actually a near perfect colour match for the old leather, just the flash made it look so dark.

Well i think it looks AWESOME!!!
Im becoming a bigger fan of the cloth interior i have everyday it gets colder. Dont need heated seats with cloth. And once you sit down, your stuck there which is nice...no sliding around.
