I have tried every product I can find and I still cannot get my tires to look "wet and shiny".

I can get them shiny and black and clean, but they never seem to have that wet look.

What products are people using to get that "wet" look?

Thanks.

I use the cheap 4 pack costco sells. It looks very wet/shiny for the first few days, but tends not to last longer then a week... fine by me as I reapply with every wash.

FWIW, it looks a little artificial, and I think this is the look most people shy away from. I happen to like it though.

If memory serves its called Nu Tire or something to that effect and is 4 spray bottles for $9.99

I have seen the gel, not sure if it was Meguiers or not. I wondered if that is better than the clear spray or the foam spray.

It may also have do with your tires. My Kumho Ecstas in the front have a deep gloss to them when i apply tire shine. But my rear contisports aren't so good with tire shine.

i personally dont like wet looking tires, they just look greasy and artificial, as another member previously stated. i think tires should be black, matte black, not shiny at all.

having said that, i havnt always been of this mind set. i dont remember exactly which product i used to use to achieve the wet look, but i dont think its the product that matters as much as the process. i would wait until the tires were dry to apply the first coat on all of the tires and wait a little bit, maybe an hour, wipe off any excess, then apply another coat. using this process, the first coat will be absorbed into the rubber and the second will be more of a dressing rather than a protectant. ive found better results if during that hour of waiting the car is out in the sun.

+1 with the above statement. tires should never have that wet look. it reminds me of the armorall look; which i hate. i love the tire to be the matte finish. i bought a gallon of matte finish from www.chemicalguys'.com (http://www.chemicalguys'.com)

I don't go for the wet look, either. I use 303 Protectant, wipe on/wipe off. Just looks like a new tire, nice and healthy. Might last a week or two, depending on weather, which is fine by me. Good UV protection, too.

I have seen old tires absorb the product.....

I am on the fence about the shine on my tires.. If I am going to be doing a personal photo shoot, I tend to leave them shiney, but for my everyday appearance I wipe off the excess and leave them that way.. As stated above the Meg's products work well and last... I have heard good things about 303 as well, but I never ordered any.

+1 on the 303. Reminded me that I'm all out
I use it in between the times I either scrub the tires or use the foam spray cleaners/protectants (No Touch, Armor All foam...). I usually end up wiping/ buffing the tire after the foam dries to get the black, matte finish and to ensure nothing slings off.

A couple of points to consider:
Some tires just don't dress well, others do.
My winter driver had Michelins and those just wouldn't look good no matter what I did. I cleaned them, I spritzed them, I dressed them, and they'd look ok for about 5 minutes, then just boringly average.
The Yokos on the Coupe look great and always clean and dress perfectly.

Clean them well and remove any of the brown 'bloom'. Top of the Line sells the best tire/rubber cleaner I've ever found.

Do a double or triple application of your high gloss dressing of choice. Don't rub or disturb the previous layer, rubbing will tone it down.

Good luck with your quest,
-John C.

Thanks for all the great comments.

I tried Stoner More Shine this weekend too and it is a nice shine with a little wet look to it. I'll try the others as I rotate through what I have already bought.

I used to use lots of different products to shine up my tires.. Thats until they all turned a disgusting brownish color from my efforts. Now I have a new set of Toyos, and never again will I allow myself to be duped by the shiny tire culture! :)

i got some pro stuff, unlabeled milkey substance, from a local auto detailer. it makes the tires look new and natural. try and ask detail shops to give you what they use for a couple bucks. i know the guy who owns the detail shop so he gave me a full gallon in a milk jug for free lol :)

How come you guys arent afraid of turning your tires a murky brown with this stuff? Is it because you dont believe my earlier post, or because youve found something youve been able to use for over a year without it happening? Try doing a google search on 'shiny tires brown' and read of other folks experiences.. Just trying to warn you guys before you ruin your tires like alot of other people did who didnt know better.

davey101

i agree, it does ruin the tires, some products dry them out and make them look worse then when they weren't shiny, all crackly and stuff, and i've seen quite a few brown tires. i see ricers at car shows spraying on or dressing their tires with crappy 5 dollar tire shiner. the stuff i use, which is used by pro detailers makes it look like a new tire, not really wet. the guys been using the stuff for years and it hasn't discolored tires. these tires are expensive and the cheap stuff CAN ruin them. then you'll have wet shiny brown turdy rubbers

I've had great results with Meguiars Tire Gel

How wet do you want them?

Meguiar's makes a legendary product called Hyper Dressing. It is a concentrated product that you can dilute as much as you like, but here is an example of it when it is diluted 3:1!
http://archive.meguiarsonline.com/forums/photopost/data/576/medium/Hyper_Dressing_-_Day1.jpg

My personal favorite is Meguiar's Endurance Gel right now. Smells great and lasts a long time with a good finish.

That Meguiars looks good.

As for the turning brown, I have never had that happen on any of my cars. Maybe I don't over use it or I have just been lucky.

This is valuable info. Lets have a listing from you guys who have used your tire product for a year or longer on the same set of tires on your car now, who have NOT seen a browning, or flaking, cracking, etc of your tires in all this time. Lets have a listing of your products.. Or just reply giving the product name, but its got to have been used on the same tires on a quasi regular basis for a year.. This will be more valuable than any vendor testimonial or adds weve come across..

Eagle F1 Tire Shine. Have been using it for approx 4 months now, NO browning whatsoever. Tires stay nice and black for a VERY long time. It's more of a matte black look, not too shiny but I like it :)

I don't even wash (ie. scrub them with a soapy solution) the tires prior to applying the tire shine and there's still no browning. I guess this is as good as it gets?

I think this break down of the Browning products belongs in its own thread....... Hopefully by now the OP has got an answer for his original question.

My Tires do not generally last more than 18 months, and I rarely use any dressing on the tires unless I am going to take photos..... So I have never been a victim of Browning.... But I do believe this subject deserves it own thread.....

Yeah, I've used the Stoner's spray also, if that is the same product you're referring to, and it worked fine. I just made sure it absorbed well and then came back and did a little once-over buff with a rag
