Too purple, go with 6000k.

even 6000K is too much expecially since the recent crack downs on toobrightblindyblue lights

nah this is like iceberg blue or crystal white. its pretty much white with a shade of blue. purple is at 10000k. i got this off my mechanic and he says they are really good, and dont look phony and stuff.

Plus.....8000k won't really give off enough light to make a profound difference (2550Lm compared to my 6000k's 3000Lm output). BUT you can always buy a 5000k kit for your fogs (they use 9006 bulbs, too) and swap out the bulbs, tha'd look cool....

The 8000k kits may look a little purplish at night but the 6000k kits off ebay look cheap and green during the day (even approaching night), the 8000k's look nice and white. (I just went from 6000k's to 8000k's)

To each his own I guess.

I've seen MacR's 6000K and bought the same kit as he did.

Look at the 9th picture down to see the difference, and even then it was a little dark. 6k on the left 8k on the right

I bought my 6kk kit expecting it to be a tad too blue, however ever since the initial burn in I've absolutely loved my lights. Nice and white with a little more blue than regular stocks on newer cars, and at a distance theres a beautiful deep blue HID flare.

That could also be caused from the color balance of the camera. I've taken pics of my lights that have turned out greenish before, and in person they are definitely blue.

Nah, those are from another guys car, I have the same thing. Actually mine look a little greener than that during the day.

I'm afraid I have to completely disagree.

If you want nice and white, then you need to get the 4300K. I prefer the 6000k, because those are the ones that most closely match the BMW factory 4300Ks, due to some refraction issues. They are mostly white with a slight blue/purple tint to them. The 8000k's look BLUE. The 7000k are like an aqua blue and 8000k are blue, and then up from their they begin to be purple. BUT the higher the tempurature, the less the light. They look like the old hyperwhite bulbs that were tinted blue, and they give off a lot less light than the 4300k and the 6000k.

As for 6000k looking cheap, no way. I have gotten tons of compliments on my lights and most people cannot tell that they are not factory. If you look at cars with the 7000k and 8000k bulbs, you can definitely tell that they are aftermarket. Here where I live, I usually see these on rice burners. There are just no factory cars, (except maybe the mid-nineties Lincoln Mk8, they were pretty blue) with HIDs that look like anything above a 6000k. But as another forum discusses here, most factory cars use 4300k.

For foglights, I don't know about your cars, but my 90 525 uses H1 bulbs. I put the 3000k bulbs in the fogs, so they look like amber driving lights that are very bright. The contrast looks awesome.

I completely agree. They are hard to describe (white with blue/purple tint, but in person I think these 6000k are the best looking lights out there.

I started a thread a while back on these lights, and many people have bought the same ones, and everyone is a little unsure at first, but once they install them, I'm only had positive comments from everyone that installed them.

The error message is also not a problem. If you get it, it only takes ten minutes and maybe a couple dollars to fix it.

I think the colour difference is more apparent in free form lights. The E34 projectors throw out the rainbow effect at the cutoff points anyway. So even the old yellowish H1 bulbs in mine had a blue/green/purple colour flash from certain angles.
I fitted 4300k kits into my fogs and lowbeams and the net result is seriously improved light output. The colour is exactly like any of the factory fitted hid cars. Pure white light!

Free forms+HID=BAD IDEA. Get projectors if you don't have them. I have a Phillips 4300K kit and can't be happier [I have Euro Smileys as well, but the projector pattern should be close to the US Projectors]...DONT DO FREE FORMS AND HID...The light won't be focused at all and you will blind everyone in your path and still not be able to see well.

And after that I moved my brand new [at the time] SilverStar Ultras to the fogs, for even moooore light. :buttrockKind of a range of colors there, but the first one looks the accurite. They really are amazing, and turn heads when I sometimes leave them on during the day.

Yes. :)

Seriously though, the SSU's were a great improvement over the old OEM bulbs. I might try to put modded 9005s in there too sometime, but prolly not. What I really need is some ellipsoidal fogs..

^^my bulb blew out the other day, so I upgraded to the SSU. I was pleased with my purchase. They are pretty white. 525, that pic comparing the two realy make me want to do the conversion. If those $20+SH eBays are good 6000k's, what do you think about also putting the HIDs in the fogs?

^ yeah, I mean I want to get a 5000k kit for my fogs, and switch the bulbs so that I have 5000k (3200Lm) lows, and 6000k (2900Lm) fogs.

But yeah, if you have the money, give it a shot with the fogs, they'd look sweet.

Hey Cmar, can you take some pictures of the ballasts in your car? I'd really like to see how you did it. I had to be sort of inventive to get mine to mount.

http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r110/fuzzy_fury/enginebay1.jpg

I don't know if you can see it, but I used screws and washers on the other side to hold the ballasts to the engine bay heat shield on the passenger side. The driver side ballasts are tucked way down below the air intake, on the other side of the engine bay. So far, everything is working swimmingly.
