Just bought a new water pump for my 535i and it's got a composite/plastic impeller. Is this something new? The ones I bought before were always metal. Even the picture on the website I bought it from shows it being metal. Maybe that's why my old one died an early death.
BTW, the new one I got is a Laso. My old one was a Geba and it had a metal impeller.
<edit> I just took a look at the new E30 water pump I have NIB and it's got a plastic impeller as well. Maybe it's just a Laso thing?
Thoughts? Comments? Bad news?

On my M3, it's just the opposite. The originals were cheap plastic...broke. Then the newer M3's had metal impellers. Now supposedly, those aren't any good and they went with a composite plastic to avoid the cracking. I think the metal impellers weren't nice on bearings.... I dunno.
In this pict, it looks like metal, right?

kinda does look metal. i just know that i'll probably need to switch the metal ones before i do any performance mods since it'll put stress on the plastic'd impeller.

You'd better ask before you order. Like I said, I order this one thinking it was metal, but it's plastic.

I just did my water pump (graf) and it had a hard composite impeller. you are correct in that the original plastic were crap, they went to metal which wore out bearings so they re-designed again and went with a better plastic.
The brand you bought has had good reviews that I have heard of so you should be good.

The Geba it was replacing was metal impeller. I noticed it was leaking from the weep hole, so I replaced it. Probably why it was leaking...
