View Full Version : How's your gas mileage?

Just curious. I recently got my OBC working and have been watching its MPG function, which seems to have settled into an average of about 19 mpg. This is with a mix of in-town and highway driving. Seems a little on the low side to me. How does this compare to your Sixes?
Also, how well does your OBC mpg reading correspond with your actual mpg? I have yet to calculate my actual mpg using a full tank but I calculated it last week with about a half tank and it looked like I was getting about 16 mpg. Pretty low. Lots of in-town driving that week, though, and I was driving it pretty hard so I'm hoping that was a fluke. I'm used to getting around 21 or 22 mpg with my '84 Supra (2.8L six).

Just had a thread on this, so if you don't get many responses look at the old threads under the main forum.
I get 21.4 on the OBC in mixed driving and have gotten 28 on the interstate taking it easy. '87 635

Whoops -- forum foul -- sorry about the repeat thread. I'll check the old ones.
(It does look like my 19 mpg is pretty in the ball park with the 17 and 21 you guys have mentioned here.)

Wow, I checked the other thread. These cars obviously weren't designed to do the mpg econo thing. Typical mileages in the upper teens. I still have the ignition parts to replace in my car -- wires, distributer cap & rotor, it's all original as far as I can tell -- so maybe there's hope of picking up a few mpg there.

I did a drive across the beautifyl state of washington. I got my car up to 125mph just after Moses lake but I only checked my mileage after fueling up and heading home. I cruised between 75 & 80 mph with no heavy acceleration and averaged right around 21 mpg. I think it was 21.2. Not bad for hauling as for 300 plus miles.

Yea, most people get in the teens for average. i think this is because most of the owners dont drive this car as a DD. I drive it DD and got about 21 average. If you baby it on the highway, you can flirt close to 30mpg, but city is almost always in the teens.

Mine's a DD too and I average around 22 cruising at 80-ish. Of course it plummets in cities, usually around 14 to 15. I car-sat a '99 750 il for a couple weeks that did about the same.

Thanks guys. Looks like my mpg is pretty normal. I'm okay with having a gas hog as long as everyone else's is a gas hog too!

My euro m6 gets 22.8 as a daily driver. Most of 80 miles a day is two lane at 60mph

Our '83 Euro 635 (5 speed OD, cat-free) averages 9-10 liters per 100 miles (23-25 MPG). It takes a little more than 6 gallons after a 170 mile round trip (miles based on odometer accuracy).
The auto tranny and US emissions equipment both seem to detract from fuel efficiency. Our son's US spec '87 635csia averages low 20 mpg.

Im really not that far from you though, at state college. On my way down to sharkfest ill stop by and check out the fleet. I see the avanti in the background there!

Jeff:
The Euro may be a little lighter than a US spec car. Remember that the ones that are federalized should have steel bars added in the door panels and bumpers.
Stop by any time you are in the neighborhood! I'll try not to wreck the euro before Nov 10th ;)
