View Full Version : Coolant expansion tank replacement DIY

I've searched, and I can't find a DIY for this. I'm assuming it's not hard, but if there's some shortcuts/hints, I'd like to know them. I just want to replace the plastic expansion tank.

If at all possible, I don't really want to drain the coolant, either; just what is in the expansion tank and then pinch off the hose to the radiator.

Do I need to take off the radiator shroud and the fan to get the tank out?

Anything special about the coolant level sensor?

TIA,

Michael,

I just replaced mine recently; you definitely don’t need to take off the radiator shroud or the fan to get the tank out – just have to remove the shroud from the radiator (couple of screws on top) to give you more room. With respect to the coolant level sensor, I have to reuse the old one because the connector is not the same…but make sure to use the new cap (remove from the new sensor) because the tread pattern is not the same between tanks. Let me know if you have any more questions
