Good way to learn...

I'd recommend sectioning the car and use different pads and products.

Section 1: compound pad and compound
Section 2: polish pad and polish (Menzerna or Meguiar's 83)
Section 3: finish pad and some wax

Pressure and rpm play a huge factor in rotary use. Keep the rpm at 1,000-1,200, don't use too much product, and check your work as you vary pressure. One of the easiest combo's to use is Meguiar's #83 and a compound pad to remove defects, followed by the same product on a polish pad. The results are dramatic.

What do you mean by a 'compounding' pad? Most pads are either classified as Cutting pad, Polishing pad, or finishing pad. By 'Compounding' pad, are you speaking of a 'cutting ' pad?
