I just got my rims refinished and they told me not to use those rim cleaner because it will damage the clearcoat. Is that true? because sometimes it's hard to take the dirt off with just water itself. Sometime I use the castrol degreaser. It works better then rim cleaner.

I have not heard anything of the clearcoat being damaged. Maybe he is saying that just to wait a bit for it to settle because its new. :az:

i think you should treat the paint on your rims like the paint on your car... however, make sure you use a different brush/sponge to clean your wheels from your paint as to not contaminate your car body with brake dust. i've used simple green with no problems... some people have warned against using more 'aggressive' cleaning solutions as it tends to strip off the clearcoat.

You shouldnt have to use cleaner with the clearcoat they put on it. It is better than from the factory and should come right off with soap and water. :)

thks, I think I'll wash it more often so it doesn't gather up all the dust and clean at one time. This is the first time I got my rims refinished. It look like new.
