i have a radio im trying to sell that came out of my 2001 325ci i heard that i could sell it and that person could go to the dealer and find the code to get it working. Now some other guy that is interested in buying my radio says that the security code cant be given out if i sold my radio and i should have it. Where is the security code in my owners manual for my car or what?

There should be a little card (or maybe two of them) with your manual somewhere.

If you already removed the radio, the serial number should be in the back. Take that to the dealer and they can give you the code. If it's not removed yet, press the M button....wait for 2 sec. the serial number should pops up.. there you go...

If the dealership is following the rules, they won't just give out the code if you have the radio. It should still be in the car who's VIN matches the radio's S/N. For newer models, BMW NA has an online resource for dealers that gives radio codes by VIN as well as S/N. It should be a quick job for the Service Dept to go online and get the code, but they will need to have you (the registered owner), the car (with the VIN) and the radio (with a matching serial number).
If you bought the car new, and you haven't lost them, C///M is right, you should have the card in your manual.

Wait a minute. I thought the E46's don't need radio codes. At least I didn't have to when I disconnected the battery to my E46 and reconnected it. I've checked my manual, and the code is not there.

Dinan is correct. E46 models do not have codes on factory BMW Radio units.

hmm....
i am not sure if e46s have the code or not, but if they do, blackm3 was right on the money.
just give that serial code on the back to a service guy and they should be able to get you the code.
it may take a couple tries to get the code to work though:az: just what seems to happen.

Yea, like everyone said, there is no code for the E46 radios.
1995red - the code should work on the first try, at least it did for me when I had to put mine in.

As long as you enter it correctly it will work the first time. Don't screw it up 3 times in a row though because then you have to leave the radio on for one hour before you can reenter it.
