How much time did that take you to do? Could you do me a favor and make a list of the supplies you used? I'm always looking to try new stuff. :)

I have been doing this as a hobby since 99
I use a Metabo!

I only use a rinse bucket as I just respray the panel with the Foam whenever I need to.

is that measuring the temperature?
rafimos
10-20-2007, 07:04 PM
is that measuring the temperature?
its measuring the depth of the clear/color/primer coats of paint
theres 2 versions of this one...one of which will automatically know if its measuring steel or aluminum....bamf stuff and can play a vital role when correcting/compounding :D
cuz otherwise your just guessing

m3beemer16- each manufacturer, model, year, and sometimes even color each yields different depths.

Heh FMINUS when using a rinse bucket. would it go something like this.
1-rinse
2-foam cannon
3-wipe with mitt and spray then dip mitt in rinse bucket then spray foam on wiped area again. then respray foam.
how exactly is the third process. thanks in advance

okay thanks so would you wipe with mitt as you spray with foam the first time?
or would you foam entire car. then start the mitt wiping, rinse dipping for entire car. then after you have wipe entire car down. then you respray foam. just a little confused thats all.?
or would you do this process in sections on the car. because that would take long?

I foam, let sit, pressure wash. foam, let sit, pressure wash, then foam and wipe each panel with mitt then rinse bucket, repeat until done, foam, then shower with flood.

Can you guys get into some more details about this fella. How does the depth of the paint effect your detailing. Do you just cut less if it is too shallow? What should the depth be? Semi new to detailing here... just looking to learn what i can from the forums. Thanks guys.

Most factory paint jobs range from 3.5 to 5.5 mils (87 to 137 microns). Thinner readings indicate that the clear coat is almost entirely removed or in the case of single-stage systems that the primer is about to show through. Avg price for somthing like this ranges between 495-795 and up
FMINUS
10-24-2007, 12:24 AM
jladdm3-most manufactures do not recommend removal of more than .5 mils.
A new factory paint job from BMW is around 5.8 mils depending on the color

How do you know how much you are removing? other than using one of those things.
Just wondering... like a rough figure. I asume it depends on the pads and polish you are using.
Thanks for the info.

he is using a foam Canon..which is hooked up to a pressure washer...and i want one bad....
are you using an electric one or gas fminus?
FMINUS
10-24-2007, 09:15 PM
jladdm3-you have to measure before and after you polish. You also have to be familiar with the car to know how thick "stock" paint is. Theres no guessing !!
rafimos- ur right! I use an electric, gas ones are annoying because they spew exhaust while u are working and its not safe to use too high of a PSI when washing cars!:shifty

Thanks FMINUS for the info on the pressure washer. i bought a gas one. but would love to wash my car in my garage without killing myself. so im changing mine for a electric one.
FIMINUS :why do they say not to use the foam cannon with a electric washer?
1- is their enough power to blast the dirt off the rims?
2-the electric karcher i assume u have; are their any special adapters i need to hook the foam cannon to? or is it a direct fit with no modifications? And what is your pressure washers model number please?
3- is the electric power washer quiet?
4- oh yea FMINUS what is the name brand and psi power of your washer. does your washer happen to be yellow; because i saw one at samsclub by karcher for a low price. Thanks
Thanks bro.

1. yes, and if not, you need to scrub, too much power is no good.
2. theres an adapter you can get from the UK, otherwise you have to be creative. its the 1400psi one.
3. its pretty quiet, especially compared to hte GAS ONE!

FMINUS one more thing. ive done a lot of research on the karcher electric pressure washers. and it seems the electric ones have a poor design flaw. they all start to leek and get cracks in the canisters. and wands being made of plastic have cracked and leaked as well.
does this hold true to yours. if i buy one it will be from costco or sams club. they will take their shit back up to 90-days. and after that you just tell them you lost receipt and they will give you a store credit.

Okay FMINUS i went to costco and sams club and both electric washer made by karcher are junk. they both have plastic pump fittings and you would have to upgrade the wand.hose, handle and get the end tips. the only prob is that the plastic pump dont last long.
so i called RJBOWERS.COM and spoke with a rep. and i ended up buying a upgraded model electris powerw washer by karcher. it has all metal pump fittings. i would still have to upgrade the wand. but they will discount the factory fittings from the price. so yes i did find one that will work with the FOAM CANNON; now to all those who didnt think that you could use a foam cannon with a electric washer. you can. either upgrade the items listed upbove. or better yet. spend the additional funds$$$$ to a better unit that will last you and except the foam cannon. mine unit cost me $300.00

sorry bro its www.rjbowers.com (http://www.rjbowers.com) for karcher power washers with aluminum pump fittings. this would allow the foam cannon to connect right to it using the upgraded parts.

This foam canon has me really interested. I was looking at rjbowers.com. Which model did you end up buying for $300?
Where do you get this foam canon from?
