View Full Version : Dual exhaust on an M60 E34???

So I decided I would try to start some shit since I know EVERYONE will probably have a different opinion on this matter.:redspot
But seriously my honest question is why do M60 e34's and other older BMW's with V8's not need dual exhaust while almost every other car in the world with a V8 does.
Would a 4.0 m60 benefit from having true dual exhaust???
If not then why ???
Is there enough room for it under there?
And i know some people probably think this is sacrilege putting duals on an E34
I ask because my car will soon have a new exhaust and i am just curious of what the benefits or ramifications could be of doing this?
Also if anyone has done this any feedback on how it sounds, performs and looks would be apreciated

They do have dual exhaust. Separate pipe for each side of the headers all the way out the back.

But I may not be understanding your question?

They ALL have two pipes, even the six cylinders.

They have duals but I think your talking about what looks like quads like on a e39 m5. Most cars that have quads still have one pipe on each side but theres a y pipe that splits into two so you can weld on the muffler. All e34's have duals down the whole car the only difference being that they stay right next to each other down the hole car and go into the same muffler.

Exactly.

Or he"s talking about the fact the duals use a common muffler, cat, etc. This never made much sense to me either...

pretty much every bmw but a 4 cylender has true dual exhaust. just becase its on one side dosent make any diffrence. the muffler has 2 pipes inside it if I am not mistakin. the cats also I think only share a heat shield, the inside is 2 seprate cats( I could be wrong). my car couldnt have a more dual exhaust, besides most people that run dual exhaust on their v8 car or truck use a x-pipe or h-pipe
what you are talking about is purely for asthetics/fittment having one pipe on one side and one on another.

+1 to the above.

If you mean a pipe (or pair of pipes) coming out of each side of the car in the back...yeah, I've wondered that myself. I think it'd make the car look better, but I'm guessing it wasn't done because they didn't care enough to justify the cost. Also because the fuel tank gets in the way, I believe.

u can not make it due to the reason A/M unless u reduce its size or put it in the spare tyre place or so

You could always just get a couple of tips, cut a hole in the rear bumper, and duct-tape them to something. Fake Turbo Noize style FTW.

Quads have been done and after viewing the pipes from underneathe you realize the tank isn't to hard to deal with.

You could do it, it would be quite a bit of work, but would be cool if you like that look. I really like just having the exhaust one one side though.. :dunno

they don't share cats or resonator... 2 of each of those. It is a true dual. Only thing you will gain by tossing another muffler on there is weight.

Truth. I cut off my stocke muffler and ran 2 separate pipes out the back. The stock muffler weighs 30-40 pounds.
