Just wondering what I could do to my car since there is no smog or inspection requirement where I am living in right now... What performance hindering things can I take off without getting too illegal or noisy...:D? What can I add? My block is a S50 and I was thinking about selling my auto tranny (30k mi) and converting to manual, and adding a supercharger in the spring.

I am also looking to get a second really nice e34 now so I can totally trick (tastefully of course) this one over the next year and race her....

Oh yes, Gretchen will be one powerful bitch soon...
She also wields the Decepticon logo now :firedevil and is getting 25% tint all around next week too.

For those of you that remember my misfortune a few months ago, life has totally turned around since the "breakup" with the evil one:devillook and getting away from her constant negativity. Things have cheered up now I would say! but I still dont have my 2 littlest kids yet:(, but wow life got good otherwise. After leaving cali with just a carload of shit:redspot, I now live closer to my oldest 2 children where I can see them all the time:whatmiss. My oldest 2 thing it is so cool that they can now call me anytime they want, though sometimes it is a few too many times a day... lol. I met up with some good old-school friends and found my place again doing computer services once again. I have finally just about replaced everything other than my TV thanks to my partnership in a new business venture that is paying off big time.:mechstuck And the rents here are cheap and with a roommate, rent is only $217.50 a month:eyecrazy... Now things can be accomplished quickly, I can get a better lawyer for my other 2 kids, and After the last 4 years of misery with my ex, life has now turned back upright and it is time to do my entrepreneurial (<- Did I spell that right... lol) thing once again and this time it is set to dominate.:deadhorse:

Oh, did I mention the bimmer is about to be tricked? If you know anything smog related that I should remove because no laws, please let me know... This should be interesting...

Congrats man, good to hear that things are turning around. As for smog related mods....you could always straight pipe the beast, not sure how much of a gain that would be. Im not the best person to answer that cuz i dont have any smog laws here

Probably the single best upgrade at this point ... and it's also smog legal in 50 states. Well, maybe not in California because I hear a manual transmission can indeed cause cancer there ...

+1

I have a race down pipe on my 16v. Eliminates the cat. Goes straight from the manifold to the straight pipe for the exhaust. Love it!

It's noisy. It makes the cabin hot. But it really lets the engine breath. Wouldn't trade it for the world.

Might want to check into something similar for your 5er.

Good luck.

Cheers,

Rent $217.50 a month? Where'd you move Ethiopia?

My guess is somewhere in the mid-West or OH/upstate NY/ western PA area. Rent is dirt cheap there.

When I lived in Rochester, NY I had a nice 1 bedroom apt, heat, hot water included, with an attached 1 car (heated) garage for less than $500/month.

Ahh, those were the good old days of cheap livin'....

I was paying 150/month including utilities and a 2-car garage (full of crap and unheated, but still) last summer. Small town in the middle of Ohio FTW.

I just moved a bit north to oregon... I just found a set of 17" 5 spoke fittipaldi's that I am gonna pick up today. I am also going to get rid of the cats :) for now and see what it does for me!

Get rid of those cats.

Would this not cause a problem with the O2 sensor? I apologize in advance for being stupid.

Good god. I have to move to Oregon now...that's crazy cheap, and plus you guys have no sales tax. $1k+ per month just to survive ftl :(. Anyway, good to hear things are turning up. I wanted to see your car though, sounds like a sleeper beast.

Well in Oregon you have to take your car to a DEQ to get a certificate that will allow you to register your vehicle here and get your plates. Oh yeah that stands for Department of Environmental Quality. So if you moved to Oregon land of the tree huggers and dirt worshipers keep those cats on that puppy.

and not all of oregon is cheap, portland isn't quite at the level of california, but it's catching up quick. properly values have popped here just like everywhere else, and rents are now catching up quick.

but i still like it, and the no sales tax isn't bad, but they get you on income tax.

anyway, glad to hear things are working out and life is looking up. good luck dealing with your two little ones.

on the car front, if you do get a huge performance bump from removing your cats, it means they were plugged. a properly functioning cat only loses a few hp, or about 1% of your power. considering that it cleans up 99.9% of the crap that passes through it, i wish you'd keep it. i like my lungs pink thankyouverymuch. and you better check on the DEQ regs in your area, here in PDX we have smog tests.

welcome to oregon!

obd1 e34 o2 sensors are pre-cat. No problem.

Ok... lmao!!! Where I am in oregon, there is no DEQ here (yay!). I just have to get a single inspection when I transfer the registration from California and that is it!!!

And yes only some areas of oregon are still butt cheap! Dont go to portland or anything like that, though housing is still a bit cheaper than Cali...

and finally! I got the 17's on... Registration is next Monday, and it is good to hear that my OBC1 O2 sensor will work fine without the cats! they definately have to go...
